Effectiveness of the railway - flower road model

For nearly a year now, the section of the railway running through the residential area on Bau Trang 7 Street and the section belonging to Group 5, Thanh Khe Tay Ward (Thanh Khe District) has become much cleaner and more beautiful thanks to the blooming flower bushes. This railway section is one of the locations chosen by the City Women's Union in coordination with grassroots associations and related units to implement the "Train Road - Flower Road" model. After the flowers are planted along the railway, they will be handed over to women's union members living nearby to take turns taking care of them.

Ms. Le Thi Hien, member of Branch 1, Thanh Khe Tay Ward Women's Union, shared that in the areas chosen to plant flowers along the railway, people's awareness of environmental hygiene has been raised; there is no longer a situation of leaving items, dumping garbage, and waste on the sidewalk, railway area; household waste is neatly placed or waiting for the right time to be collected. The flower planting areas are watered and cared for by members in turn, creating a green, clean and beautiful landscape.

Chairwoman of the Thanh Khe Tay Ward Women's Union Le Thi Ngoc Van said that the railway section in the ward was selected by the City Women's Union to implement the "Train - Flower Road" model, which has changed the landscape and living environment in residential areas as well as limited the situation of littering that causes environmental pollution and encroachment on railway safety corridors. In the vacant land areas next to the railway, after cleaning up the grass, the garbage is reduced, and various flowers are planted in the ground. In areas with fences, members plant pots of bougainvillea, yellow trumpet vine and some easy-to-care-for flowers... To raise awareness of members as well as residents in residential areas, the Ward Association regularly propagates and coordinates with local units to clean and weed flower gardens every weekend.

Hoa An Ward (Cam Le District) is one of the localities that effectively implemented the model of "Train Road - Flower Road". According to Chairwoman of the Ward Women's Union Le Thi Thuy Tien, in the ward there is about 2.5km of railway along Truong Chinh Street, running through 5 residential areas. Through 2 launching campaigns, the Ward Association and Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company planted more than 170 bougainvillea and yellow trumpet trees; 5 residential areas responded by planting 20-30 trees each.

The Ward People's Committee coordinates with relevant parties to regularly carry out general cleaning, handle littering in the wrong places, and place propaganda boards in response to the model. In addition, the Ward People's Committee established a support team to take care of flowers in residential areas, support the care of newly planted trees; mobilize and propagate households, women's union members, and mass organizations along the railway line to commit to join hands in implementing this model, actively plant more flowers and trees; and not leave construction materials, garbage, and waste along the route.

To replicate the “Train Road - Flower Road” model in places where railways pass through, the City Women’s Union coordinated with local and local associations to survey and select suitable routes for implementation. Thanks to that, many beautiful flower gardens were born in Hoa Phat ward (Cam Le district); Hoa Tien commune, Hoa Chau commune (Hoa Vang district).

According to the President of the City Women's Union Hoang Thi Thu Huong, the "Train - Flower Road" model deployed in places where railways pass through contributes to ensuring the safety of railway corridors, improving the living environment, helping to balance the ecosystem, reduce environmental pollution, and create a green - clean - beautiful landscape for residential areas. Localities with railways passing through the city responded and proactively coordinated with relevant parties to deploy and plant nearly 1,000 bougainvillea, yellow trumpet vine, hibiscus, yellow trumpet vine, colored leaves, etc.

This model contributes to raising awareness and responsibility of cadres, women's union members, and the community in protecting the environment in general and the railway in particular; at the same time, reducing littering on vacant land along the railway.
