Eagerly waiting for the opening of the 2,000 billion VND bridge connecting Hai Phong

The Ben Rung Bridge Construction Investment Project (Ben Rung Bridge Project) officially started on May 13, 2022, on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day. The project has a total investment capital of more than 1,940 billion VND from the central budget (1,100 billion VND), Hai Phong City budget (more than 835 billion VND) and Quang Ninh province budget (5.5 billion VND).

To effectively exploit the project, Quang Ninh province has allocated 355 billion VND from the budget to build the approach road to Ben Rung bridge. The approach road has a total length of 2.2 km, designed with 6 lanes.

On January 31, 2024, after more than 20 months of construction, the Ben Rung Bridge Project connecting Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong City with Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh Province, officially closed. It is expected to open to traffic on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day (May 13, 2024). After that, the opening date was postponed to June 2024.

The reason why the Ben Rung Bridge Project "missed" the opening date twice stems from difficulties in constructing the approach road to the bridge on the Quang Ninh side while Hai Phong City basically completed the bridge body and approach road items since the beginning of May 2024.

Thanks to Quang Ninh province's efforts to support the contractor in overcoming difficulties related to lack of filling materials, unfavorable weather conditions (prolonged heavy rain), etc., by early July 2024, the approach road to Ben Rung Bridge was basically completed. The opening date is set for July 17, 2024.

On the morning of July 16, talking to Nguoi Dua Tin , Mr. Dinh Van Quyet, in Lap Le commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city, excitedly said: "People in Thuy Nguyen district are very happy with the news of the opening of Ben Rung bridge. This historic bridge helps shorten the distance from Thuy Nguyen district to Quang Yen town, creating favorable conditions for travel and trade between the two localities. I and a group of friends plan to attend the opening ceremony tomorrow (July 17) and experience driving on the new bridge."

On the side of Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh province, Mr. Bui Quang Tien, in Song Khoai commune, said that when going to Thuy Nguyen district, people in his hometown Quang Yen town have to go around Da Bac bridge or take the Rung ferry to cross Da Bac river. The route through Da Bac bridge is quite far, and taking the ferry takes a long time, which is very inconvenient.

"From tomorrow, with convenient traffic, I will often visit relatives and friends in Thuy Nguyen district," said Mr. Tien.

The contractor completed some final small items on the road leading to Ben Rung Bridge on the Quang Ninh province side before the opening ceremony.

According to Nguoi Dua Tin , preparations for the opening ceremony are basically complete. Ben Rung Bridge will officially become the third bridge connecting Hai Phong - Quang Ninh after Da Bac Bridge and Bach Dang Bridge from July 17, 2024.

After Ben Rung Bridge is put into operation, the nearly 50-year-old Ben Rung ferry will also end its mission of connecting two localities on the banks of the Da Bach River: Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong City and Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh Province.

Ben Rung Bridge is the third bridge connecting Hai Phong - Quang Ninh after Da Bac Bridge and Bach Dang Bridge. Currently, the fourth bridge connecting the two localities, Lai Xuan Bridge, is under construction.

The road leading to Ben Rung Bridge on the Quang Ninh province side has been completed to serve the traffic opening ceremony on July 17, 2024.

The road leading to Ben Rung Bridge connects with the intersection of Provincial Road 338 in Song Khoai Commune, Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh Province.

When Ben Rung Bridge comes into operation, the nearly 50-year-old Ben Rung ferry will also end its historic mission of connecting the two banks of the Da Bach River between Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong City and Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh Province.
