Ho Chi Minh City: Many private schools have not been allowed by the Department of Education to enroll 10th graders because they do not meet the required conditions.

On April 16, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that it has not yet assigned enrollment targets for grade 10 in the 2024-2025 school year to 10 private high schools.

The reason is that the schools have not been licensed to operate at the registered address, have not guaranteed a plan for organizing educational activities, or the training program has not been approved.

This list includes 6 middle and high schools: Ngoc Vien Dong, Han Viet, Khai Minh, An Dong, Phan Boi Chau, APU International and 4 inter-level schools (grades 1-12): Ngoi Sao Nho, Uc Chau, Anh Quoc, and American International School Vietnam (AISVN).

The Department said that schools need to overcome the above problems, make reports with supporting documents for this agency to consider and decide on assigning enrollment quotas for grade 10. During this time, schools are not allowed to announce enrollment.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to have more than 116,000 students graduating from secondary school. It is expected that about 70% of students will be admitted to public grade 10.

The remaining 30,000 students can choose to study at private high schools, continuing education centers or vocational colleges.

The entrance exam for grade 10 public schools is scheduled to take place on June 6 and 7 with three subjects: Math, Literature, and Foreign Language. Math and Literature will take 120 minutes, Foreign Language will take 90 minutes. Candidates taking the specialized or integrated grade 10 exam will take an additional specialized or integrated subject in 150 minutes.
