The curfew is in effect from 7pm to 5am (11pm to 09am GMT) and does not affect members of the public service on duty such as firefighters, ambulance drivers, paramedics and accredited journalists.

The announcement was made by Finance Minister Michel Patrick Boisvert, who is serving as interim Prime Minister of Haiti in the absence of Ariel Henry, on March 17.

On the same day, the Dominican Republic continued to evacuate 27 citizens residing in Haiti due to concerns about violence and instability. The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the country had dispatched three air force helicopters and an interagency task force to participate in the above-mentioned citizen evacuation operation.

Earlier, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed three bills aimed at stemming the flow of illegal immigrants amid the Haiti crisis. DeSantis dispatched more than 250 troops from multiple agencies to South Florida and key areas, noting that since the beginning of the year, state forces have cooperated with the Coast Guard and detained 670 illegal vessels and 13,500 illegal immigrants.
