Hanoi has achieved strong development steps.

This is a great historical event, marking the victorious end of the arduous, sacrificial but glorious and heroic resistance war against the French of the people of the capital in particular and the whole country in general.

Brilliant milestone

According to historical documents, since the “Decree on the Transfer of the Capital” of King Ly Thai To in 1010 until now, Thang Long - Hanoi has experienced and witnessed many historical changes. Hanoi’s army and people, generation after generation, have worked hard, fought steadfastly, and created a brilliant culture.

In its glorious history, Thang Long - Hanoi has gone through more than 10 wars against foreign invaders and ended in triumph. Among them, the Capital Liberation Day on October 10, 1954 is one of the brilliant milestones. It is not only a milestone marking the victory of a small nation against a world-leading colonial invading power, but also opening a new period of the Ho Chi Minh era in the development process of Thang Long - Hanoi.

According to recorded documents, after the Geneva Agreement was signed, the French army was forced to withdraw from Hanoi, and troops from the Viet Bac War Zone and the Northern Delta battlefields advanced to take over the capital. On the morning of October 10, 1954, the City Military Committee and military units including infantry, artillery, anti-aircraft, and mechanized units... divided into many large wings and launched a historic march into Hanoi.

At 3 p.m. the same day, after a long whistle at the Opera House, hundreds of thousands of Hanoians and armed forces attended the flag-raising ceremony organized by the Military Commission at the Flagpole Stadium. After the flag-raising ceremony, Chairman of the Military Commission Vuong Thua Vu respectfully read President Ho Chi Minh's Appeal to the people of the Capital on the occasion of Liberation Day.

The takeover of the Capital was a great success. We safely and quickly took over 129 offices, public works, factories, hospitals, schools, including military positions and important headquarters. People's lives remained normal and stable. Electricity, water, transportation and communications operated smoothly, political security and social order were well guaranteed; schools, hospitals, cultural agencies, press agencies, etc. continued to operate normally under the management of the government.

The Liberation Day of the Capital is an event that marks an important turning point, affirming the complete victory of our army and people in the resistance war against the French colonialists. At the same time, it opens a new period in the thousand-year history of Thang Long - Dong Do - Hanoi.

Hanoi always maintains growth momentum

Immediately after taking over the capital, the Hanoi Party Committee and government led the people to quickly stabilize the situation and begin to restore and renovate the city. Just one year later, Hanoi completed land reform, a fundamental strategic task of the national democratic revolution.

During the years of resistance against American imperialism, hundreds of thousands of children of the capital joined the army to fight on all battlefields. In the rear, Hanoi became a major economic center of the socialist North, supporting the front line with the motto "not a pound of rice is missing, not a soldier is missing".

Even more proudly, Hanoi and other localities, under the leadership of the Party, created a “Dien Bien Phu in the air” in December 1972, forcing the US imperialists to return to the negotiating table and sign the Paris Agreement, ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam (January 27, 1973). This was an important premise for the whole country to achieve the Great Victory in Spring 1975, reuniting the country.

The country is unified, Hanoi is a large construction site, building and developing the economy, culture, society, improving the people's lives. In particular, thoroughly grasping and creatively applying the Party's innovation policy, the Hanoi Party Committee has proposed a policy of socio-economic development in accordance with local realities, determined to innovate the management mechanism, develop a multi-sector commodity economy, operating according to the market mechanism with State management in the direction of socialism.

In particular, implementing Resolution No. 15/2008/QH12 of the 12th National Assembly, from August 1, 2008, Hanoi Capital was officially adjusted and expanded its administrative boundaries. The expansion of administrative boundaries is an important change, bringing new stature, new opportunities and a new look to the Capital. Over the past 16 years, Hanoi Capital has continued to be an exemplary leader on all "fronts", achieving outstanding achievements, contributing greatly to the overall development of the whole country.

Over the past years, Hanoi has always maintained good growth and contributed positively to the country's growth. Specifically, in the first 6 months of 2024, the total product in the area (GRDP) is estimated to increase by 6.0% (increased by 5.97% over the same period); total state budget revenue in the area is estimated to reach 61.7% of the estimate (up 12.5% ​​over the same period); export turnover increased by 8.8% (decreased by 2.7% over the same period); social development investment capital increased by 9.55% (increased by 9.0% over the same period). The construction of new rural areas has achieved many results. To date, Hanoi has 18/18 districts and towns (100%) meeting new rural standards; 382/382 communes meeting new rural standards, 186 communes meeting advanced new rural standards, and 68 communes meeting model new rural standards.

In addition, Hanoi also focuses on economic, cultural and social development, including a special topic on cultural development. Hanoi has invested in, preserved and restored over 5,000 historical relics. The education sector is the leading sector in the country. In infrastructure investment connecting the Capital region, Hanoi has implemented the project to invest in the construction of Ring Road 4 - Capital Region and parallel roads to increase connectivity with provinces and cities.

In particular, on June 28, 2024, the National Assembly passed the Law on the Capital (amended), effective from January 1, 2025, and commented on two major plans: the master plan for the construction of the Capital to 2030 and vision to 2050; Project to adjust the master plan for the construction of the Capital to 2045, vision to 2065. These two plans will help shape the space, urban management, investment, and urban development of Hanoi in the future...

At the same time, along with the urbanization process, Hanoi has made a strong transformation when promoting investment in urban development, mobilizing diverse social resources to participate. Many new urban area projects have been built synchronously, civilized, and modern, bringing a more open and modern urban development space.

Hanoi is also focusing on investment and completing the conditions to build the districts of Dong Anh, Gia Lam, Thanh Tri, Hoai Duc, and Dan Phuong into districts. Continue to promote the development of the urban area expanding to the North, investing in synchronous infrastructure to gradually build Hanoi into a smart city in the near future. Regarding the urban development orientation in the following years, Hanoi will focus on effectively implementing the Hanoi Capital Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050; the Hanoi Capital Construction Master Plan (adjusted) to 2045 and a vision to 2065 after approval.

It can be seen that with specific, focused and key solutions identified by Hanoi City, along with the solidarity of the entire political system and people, the Capital will have a new momentum, creating an important premise to successfully implement political goals, economic and social development in the coming years. Thereby, contributing to building a civilized, rich and beautiful Hanoi worthy of being the Capital - the heart of the whole country.
