BHG - The Sung clan, Sung Lu village, Lung Chinh commune (Meo Vac) is a pioneer clan in building a self-governing model of security and order (ANTT) associated with eliminating bad customs. With prestige, solidarity and innovation spirit, the clan has become a bright spot contributing to changing the awareness of Mong people in the gray stone countryside.

The Sung family has lived in Lung Chinh commune since ancient times and has gone through 7 successive generations. Currently, the family has 63 households, with more than 320 people. The households always strictly follow the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; take care of production and economic development. Notably, the family has 17 party members, many of whom have high educational qualifications, participate in social work and are trusted by the Party Committee and government to hold important positions in the local apparatus.

Promoting the collective strength of the masses in the movement "All people protect national security", since 2017, the Sung clan has voluntarily registered with the Lung Chinh Commune Police to build a model of self-managed clan on security and order. By 2021, the model was consolidated, expanded and added content to eliminate bad customs. With a very good idea, the model was quickly agreed upon by households in the clan, becoming a daily routine in each family.

The clan has established operating regulations, conventions, rules and regulations for households to sign and commit to implementing annually. The clan leadership board consists of 7 members, regularly exchanging and unifying opinions to carry out the task of self-management of security and order in the locality and residential area. For acts of violating the convention, causing disturbances, and personal conflicts, after being reminded but not making progress, the handling form will be applied according to the clan's collective convention. The clan also holds regular monthly, mid-year and year-end meetings to evaluate the results achieved and the limitations and weaknesses in order to draw experience and provide more practical directions.

Mr. Sung Chu Mua, head of the Sung clan, shared: “The motto of the clan is to use solidarity and unity as strength to manage, help and educate members to always act well, do things that are useful to the community and fully exercise the rights and obligations of each citizen. As an elderly person with prestige, I must be a support and an example for households and descendants to follow. At first, changing the awareness of the clan was not easy, because bad customs were deeply rooted, but thanks to persistent advocacy, explanation, and using their own family as a model, each household gradually changed their thinking and way of doing things.”

In the past time, members of the Sung clan's self-management group have patrolled dozens of times with the communal police force; mobilized families to hand over 5 homemade guns; and widely disseminated information on the implementation of the Land Law; Marriage and Family; Ethnicity and Religion. With the spirit of "Words go hand in hand with actions", the clan has gradually eliminated backward customs. Previously, funerals often lasted 3-5 days, with complicated and costly rituals, some families even slaughtered 4-5 buffaloes and cows, but now they are unified to only be held in less than 48 hours, not depending on the shaman or sorcerer to choose the date, and the burial of the deceased ensures environmental hygiene. The concept of worshiping, burning votive paper, superstition, and waiting for the blessing of heaven, earth, and gods has been completely eliminated. Many backward customs in eating, living, giving birth, and treating diseases have been improved.

Child marriage, one of the pressing issues in the Mong ethnic group, has also been prevented in a timely manner. Thanks to propaganda through clan meetings and private conventions, in recent years, there have been no more cases of child marriage or incestuous marriage, no dowry, no forced marriage. Families have proactively sent their children to secondary school and high school, some to college, university and work in state agencies. People have abandoned the habit of clearing forests for farming and free-range livestock. Houses are becoming more and more spacious. In addition to raising black pigs and yellow cows, some households have actively planted medicinal plants and fruit trees to replace corn.

Major Nguyen Vi Hung, Head of Lung Chinh Commune Police, said: Not only maintaining security and order, the Sung clan is also contributing to preserving and enhancing the cultural values of the Mong people in a civilized manner, suitable for the new life. From its practical effectiveness, the Sung clan model continues to be selected as a model for replication in Meo Vong village. Other communes in the neighboring areas such as Tat Nga, Nam Ban, Lung Phin have organized visits and learned from the model. The Sung clan's self-management of security and order associated with eliminating backward customs is a typical example, honored to be recognized by the Ministry of Public Security as a national representative in the movement "All people protect national security" in 2017.

Amidst the vast gray rocks, the change of the Sung family is a living proof, positively inspiring the Mong people on their journey to reduce poverty, protect the peace of their villages, and build a civilized and progressive lifestyle. Thereby, deepening the strong bond between the people and the Party, creating momentum for sustainable development in the locality.
