Overseas Vietnamese star playing football in Spain dreams of joining Vietnam team to attend World Cup

Julien Nguyen is a Vietnamese-American player who is playing well in Europe. He is currently playing for U19 Fuenlabrada in the U19 Juvenil de Honor tournament (Spain).

This is a professional tournament for the U19 age group. This tournament has the participation of many top youth teams such as U19 Real Madrid, U19 Barcelona or U19 Atletico Madrid.

The best teams are selected to participate in European youth tournaments such as the UEFA Youth League, a tournament similar to the UEFA Champions League but for young players.

Sharing about life in Spain, Julien Nguyen said: “I am in Canada until the summer of 2023. After that, I went to Rayo Vallecano for a trial. That was the first club I played for in Spain. This season I am playing for Fuenlabrada.

Moving from an English and French speaking environment to a Spanish speaking environment was not easy, but I have made many new friends, had a coach to help me and a translator to help me integrate.

In Spain, people like to play fast and physical. At first, I had difficulty keeping up with the speed of my teammates. However, I have improved a lot. Now, everything has become easier."

Julien Nguyen's parents are both Vietnamese. His family is currently working on naturalization procedures for him.

The star currently playing for U19 Fuenlabrada also revealed that he wishes to contribute to the Vietnam national team in the future.

“I would be honored if I had the opportunity to return to Vietnam to compete. If I had that opportunity, why wouldn’t I accept it? It would be very special. I hope to compete with the Vietnamese team at the Asian Cup and the World Cup,” Julien Nguyen emphasized.
