Taking full advantage of the favorable weather conditions at Hoiana Shores Golf Club, Jeneath Wong - a 1.55m tall Malaysian golfer nicknamed "Pocket Dynamite" - opened up a three-stroke lead. Over the three days of competition, Wong shot 198 strokes (-15 points) on the par-71 course, with the first two rounds being 65 and 69 strokes respectively.

Entering the final round, the Korean duo of Soomin-oh and Sumin-hong were in T2 (201 strokes). Right below second place was T4 (204 strokes) for Yunseo Yang, also from Korea, and Jazy Roberts (Australia). T6 (205 strokes) belonged to the Chinese representative pair - Yujie Liu and Ying Xu, Pimmada Wongthanavimok (Thailand), Eunseo Choi (New Zealand).
This year’s WAAP Championship Round 3 became even more memorable as it took place on a special occasion – International Women’s Day, March 8. Taking that opportunity, the Vietnam Golf Association presented flowers to female athletes, staff and spectators on the course.
With the scoreboard filled with red numbers - indicating birdies - the six-member Chinese team recorded a total of 43 birdies in the penultimate round, of which no less than 10 belonged to Liu. Thanks to that, Liu and compatriot Ren Yijia were in T16 (208 strokes) with Jeneath Wong having the best result in the penultimate round, at 64 strokes.

Golfer with the highest ranking in this year's tournament Soomin Oh
"My main goal this week is to limit bogeys and keep the ball on the fairways and greens," said Wong, 20, a third-year student at Pepperdine University in California, USA, currently ranked 123rd in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). In 2022, she won a bronze medal in individual golf at the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam.
At the 2025 WAAP Championship this week, Wong finished second in the second round but took over the top of the leaderboard on the seventh hole of the third round with her fourth birdie since starting. She then held the lead, birdied the eighth and 15th holes, and then repeated the result with a precise putt from three metres away at the 17th hole. Wong also finished with a birdie on the 18th hole despite having previously hit a bunker on the left side of the green.
Soomin-oh, the highest-ranked golfer this year (ninth on the WAGR), improved his scores with each round – 68, 67, 66. In the third round alone, Oh had two bogeys but scored five birdies and an eagle on the 10th hole after using a wood from 240 yards to put the ball close to the hole.

Thai golfer Wongthanavimok
The Thai delegation is looking to maintain their record of having a golfer finish in the top 3 every year since the WAAP Championship was established in 2018. Leading their efforts at this year’s tournament is Wongthanavimok. Le Chuc An, the only Vietnamese golfer to make the cut, continued his good performance with a 71 in round 3, thereby finishing T29 (214 strokes).
