Despite being seriously ill, overcoming her fate, teacher Nguyen Thi Hong (Trung Chai Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Sa Pa town) is still diligently working in education, spreading the word "happiness" to children in remote areas every day.
From the center of Trung Chai commune, following the concrete road clinging to the steep mountainside, we arrived at Vu Lung Sung II school - one of eight satellite schools of Trung Chai Primary Boarding School. At the school gate, although there was only a row of four-room houses with two classrooms leaning against the faded mountainside, covered with green moss, we could still clearly feel the bustling, joyful atmosphere. From teachers to students, everyone was simple and had the strong vitality inherent in the mountains and forests. Perhaps, that strong vitality has seeped into the blood of the small people here, such as teacher Nguyen Thi Hong - who is suffering from the pain of a serious illness to sow letters in this remote area.

When interacting with teacher Hong, people always feel her warmth and enthusiasm with an open way of speaking. Looking at her small, agile figure and her powerful teaching voice echoing in the mountains and forests, no one would think she is seriously ill…
After graduating from the Faculty of Pedagogy, Lao Cai College, in 1997, teacher Nguyen Thi Hong was assigned to teach at Thanh Phu Primary School (now Muong Bo Commune, Sa Pa Town). In 2000, she transferred to teach at Su Pan Primary School (now Muong Hoa Commune, Sa Pa Town). In 2012, she continued to be assigned to work at Trung Chai Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities until now. During her 27 years in the profession, Ms. Hong has devoted her entire youth to "staying in the village". Through many work units, although she had to live far away from her family, with her love for the profession and passion for teaching, Ms. Hong still diligently sowed the seeds of knowledge and helped each generation of students.

However, Ms. Hong's mission of "sowing letters" encountered difficulties and obstacles. In June 2022, after contracting Covid-19, she went to the doctor and the doctors informed her that she had a serious illness. Shock, anxiety, confusion, even disorientation, and sometimes negative thoughts were Ms. Hong's states when she learned that she had the disease. With the pain tormenting her body and mind, she thought she would give up and leave it to fate, but she overcame the pain to continue going to class and school with her beloved students.
Ms. Hong confided: It took me nearly a month to start having faith and fighting the disease after being encouraged by my family and colleagues.

It is also the motivation from family, colleagues and love for children that has helped Ms. Hong live more optimistically. Her lessons are filled with more and more laughter, even though there are still many difficulties ahead. For Ms. Hong, now, just being able to stand on the podium is a happiness. From that happiness, she spreads it in the words that she is "sowing" for students in this remote area.
Teacher Nguyen Thi Hong has good expertise, always giving students good and easy-to-understand lectures. To her colleagues, Ms. Hong has a simple, sociable and united lifestyle; to her students, she loves and helps them in all circumstances. Ms. Hong is a responsible and determined teacher, an example for her colleagues to follow.

Ms. Hong's friendliness and enthusiasm also left us with impressions of her story of overcoming her fate to contribute to the education work in mountainous areas. We believe that Ms. Hong will overcome difficulties to fight and defeat her illness, continuing with her passion.
