To address the unique challenges of a hot climate, renowned architect Norman Foster of Foster & Partners decided to do away with some of the materials typically used in high-rise buildings. Instead, he integrated advanced shading and ventilation systems, clad the exterior of the towers with marine-grade aluminum to protect the glass from harsh sunlight while still allowing natural light. These special sunshades, which resemble fish gills, are capable of reducing overall energy consumption.
