Regarding the operation of Son Tra night market, on July 10, the Office of the People's Committee of Da Nang City said that Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Tran Chi Cuong agreed with the proposal of the People's Committee of Son Tra District to extend the operation of this market from July 1 to September 30, 2024.
The People's Committee of Da Nang City assigned the People's Committee of Son Tra District to study and absorb the opinions of the units at the meeting on July 4 to complete the plan to organize Son Tra night market and send it to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to synthesize into the auction plan for leasing premises for a limited period at the proposed location; at the same time, collect opinions of the units to complete the final step and have a written report to the City People's Committee before July 20.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment shall assign staff to proactively coordinate with the People's Committee of Son Tra district to complete the auction plan for leasing premises with time to organize Son Tra night market, and report to the City People's Committee for timely direction and implementation in early August 2024.
Previously, the People's Committee of Son Tra district issued a document announcing the termination of Son Tra night market operations in An Hai Tay ward from July 1 according to the contract signed with DHTC Da Nang Joint Stock Company.
Son Tra Night Market Phase 1 has been operating since 2018 and is managed and operated by DHTC Da Nang Joint Stock Company. The market is located on Mai Hac De and Ly Nam De streets (An Hai Tay ward, Son Tra district), with about 200 stalls selling clothes, souvenirs, toys, and food.
Son Tra Night Market has become a night tourism product, attracting an average of 5,000 - 8,000 visitors each night for sightseeing, shopping and entertainment. During the peak period before the Covid-19 pandemic, this market welcomed about 12,000 - 15,000 visitors each night. Son Tra Night Market contributes to creating jobs and income for nearly 800 workers including small traders, workers, unskilled workers, part-time students, etc.
