Domestic coffee price list updated on the morning of April 6, 2025 |
The 46% tariff imposed by the US on coffee imports from Vietnam is raising concerns about disrupting the flow of Robusta coffee, exacerbating the supply shortage, according to experts. In addition, more abundant than expected rainfall in major coffee growing regions of Brazil such as Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo has improved the prospects for the new crop, making coffee supplies expected to be more abundant in the coming period.
In addition, after a series of days of strong price increases, profit-taking selling pressure from hedge funds and investors pushed coffee prices down.
According to experts, domestic coffee prices will continue to be under pressure to adjust as newly harvested supplies are gradually released to the market and Brazil is about to harvest. However, Vietnam's export expectations are still very bright as in the first quarter of 2025, the coffee industry brought in 2.8 billion USD.
In the short term, the 46% tariff imposed by the US on exports from Vietnam could disrupt the flow of Robusta coffee and further strain supply. Risk aversion across most asset markets could continue to put downward pressure on coffee prices.
Experts say the 46% tax will add about $2,500 to each ton of coffee imported from Vietnam. Meanwhile, the price of robusta coffee futures on the ICE exchange was at $5,390 per ton as of April 3.
In the short term, US roasters could switch to buying Robusta from Brazil. However, Robusta supplies in Brazil are limited because the country mainly produces Arabica.
On the other hand, when Vietnam is restricted from exporting to the US, cheap Robusta from Vietnam may shift to markets such as Europe and China, which can benefit from additional supply at more competitive prices.
