TPO - As the oldest stadium in Vietnam with nearly 20,000 seats, Thong Nhat Stadium (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City) has hosted many major national and regional tournaments, but currently many items are deteriorating due to lack of renovation, causing difficulties for cultural and sports activities.
The Management Board for Investment and Construction of Civil and Industrial Works (DDCN) has just proposed to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to speed up the renovation and repair of Thong Nhat Stadium. Accordingly, Thong Nhat Stadium will be repaired in stands A, C, D, the grass field, the running track, etc. Stands B, C1, D1 have been seriously degraded, making it difficult to ensure the safety of spectators, and are proposed to be completely rebuilt.

In addition, Ho Chi Minh City also plans to build a new wastewater treatment system management building, toilets, garbage collection houses, underground water tanks and some other technical infrastructure. The total estimated investment for the repair and upgrade of Thong Nhat Stadium is about 149 billion VND. The project is expected to start in early 2025 and be completed in December 2025.
According to the assessment of the DDCN Board, the renovation of Thong Nhat Stadium aims to facilitate the development of a sports facility of the right caliber in Ho Chi Minh City. From there, it will create conditions for the city to organize training for high-quality athletes; invest in a number of key sports to move towards professional sports, creating opportunities to expand international cooperation and exchange in sports.

Thong Nhat Stadium is the oldest stadium in Vietnam, built in 1929 and inaugurated in 1931. Initially, the stadium was named Renault, until 1960, after being upgraded, Thong Nhat Stadium was renamed Cong Hoa Stadium.
After 1975, the stadium was renamed Thong Nhat Stadium.
Thong Nhat Stadium used to host big matches such as the match between the General Department of Railways and the General Department of Customs (November 7, 1976), The Cong - Saigon Port (May 20, 1979)... This was the home ground of several big football teams in Ho Chi Minh City at one time such as Saigon Port, Customs, Department of Industry, Public Security... In 2003, Thong Nhat Stadium was one of the main stadiums hosting many competitions of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 22), including football.
