Witnessing Vietnam's oldest stadium in serious disrepair

TPO - Thong Nhat Stadium is showing signs of serious degradation. The items at the stands, grass field, running track, and building three new stands are estimated to cost more than 149 billion VND in total.

Thong Nhat Stadium (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City) has a capacity of nearly 20,000 seats and has hosted many major national and regional tournaments, but many items are currently in disrepair due to lack of renovation, causing difficulties for cultural and sports activities.

The basement area of ​​stand B is noted to be seriously degraded, with walls peeling continuously and at risk of collapsing at any time.

From 2023, stand B of Thong Nhat Stadium will be empty during home matches of Ho Chi Minh City FC, and spectators will have to sit on both sides of stands C and D.

Facilities and equipment in the functional rooms below the basement of stand B are seriously degraded.

The wall is cracked and leaking seriously in the tunnel corridor.

It is known that the budget to repair the B stand of Thong Nhat Stadium and some of the stadium's functional rooms is 149 billion VND, which is currently available and is only waiting for the procedures to be completed before upgrading and repairing.

Grandstand B has stopped welcoming spectators for over a year now. The outside of the stadium is used as a meeting room for the HCMC youth team.

It is expected that the stadium will be handed over to the construction unit in January 2025 and completed in December 2025.

During the project construction, the stadium will build additional wastewater treatment facilities, garbage collection facilities, underground water tanks for domestic use and fire protection, water treatment systems, water supply and drainage systems, communication systems, grandstand lighting systems, trees, lawns, and lightning protection systems.

The function room system of the A stand area is dirty and not cleaned.

The synthetic asphalt outside the piste is peeling off in large patches.

The fence of the D stand area is heavily rusted, quite dangerous as this is where the fans gather to cheer the most passionately.

Stands B, C1, D1 will be rebuilt with three floors.

The renovation of Thong Nhat Stadium aims to meet the needs of competition, training and coaching of high-performance athletes, serving the sports training of the people. At the same time, the project aims to ensure the landscape and environment of the city center, serving the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026.
