Heavy rain and rising floodwaters have caused many railway sections through Thua Thien Hue province to be deeply flooded, forcing six passenger trains to stop and wait at stations along the route.
Affected by cold air and high-altitude easterly winds, Thua Thien Hue has had very heavy rain. At more than 10am this morning, the North-South railway passing through Van Xa station, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province was submerged in floodwaters. The water flowed rapidly, overflowing the rails, forcing the Van Xa - Hien Sy railway section to be closed.
Also this morning, heavy rain damaged some infrastructure locations such as the railway bridge and tunnel No. 8 on the Thua Luu - Lang Co route. Some locations of the railway were flooded 20-30 cm, forcing the closure of this section of the road, according to Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company.
By 10am, the Thua Luu - Lang Co section was cleared, allowing trains to pass at a speed of 5 km/h. At some locations, the water was about 8cm above the top of the rails.

Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company said that at Hai Van station, the slope behind the station collapsed. The sand layer of the slope was carried by the water onto the rails and through Hai Van station.
Thanks to the 0.5 m thick concrete retaining walls, the train still ran safely through Hai Van station and the top of the pass. The Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company sent people to monitor and shovel sand to create a flow downstream. However, the Hai Van Bac - Lang Co route had to be blocked due to falling rocks that threatened safety.
According to Vietnam Railway Corporation, as of noon today, 6 passenger trains SE1/2, SE3/4, SE6, SE19 are still waiting for the railway to be cleared at Hien Sy, Dong Ha, and Da Nang stations.
Meanwhile, according to Road Management Area II, many sections of National Highway 1, National Highway 49B through Thua Thien Hue province, and National Highway 49C through Quang Tri were flooded 0.5 m deep, causing traffic congestion since early morning.
This afternoon, many vehicles were diverted to Highway 1, avoiding Hue or going on the Cam Lo - Tuy Loan Expressway. The La Son - Tuy Loan Expressway connecting Da Nang and Thua Thien Hue also had some landslides, but the road has not been closed yet, and vehicles are moving slowly.
Heavy rain combined with floodwaters from the upper reaches of the Huong River quickly poured down, causing flooding in Hue City and many districts in the province since last night. The provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai also had heavy rains earlier, causing localized flooding and landslides on some roads.
