In 2024, despite being severely affected by super typhoon Yagi, Quang Ninh tourism still strives to reach its annual target of 19 million visitors, including 3.8 million foreign visitors - a record number ever. This also shows a spectacular recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic and outstanding progress with many aspects of improvement, bringing a bright and new look to Quang Ninh tourism.

Tourists enjoy and sightsee when returning to Yen Tu spring festival in 2024.

Quang Ninh has key tourist areas associated with the four seasons of the year. In the spring festival season, tourism welcomes a large number of domestic visitors to visit and pay homage at hundreds of communal houses, pagodas, temples, and shrines spread across all regions of the province, most concentrated in the western localities such as Dong Trieu, Uong Bi, and Quang Yen. Large relic sites such as Yen Tu, Cua Ong, Bach Dang, Tran Dynasty heritage site, Cai Bau temple - pagoda, Ba Vang pagoda, etc. are the places that attract the largest number of visitors, up to tens of thousands of visitors per day during peak times.

Not only during the spring festival season, the relics also welcome a more bustling number of visitors during the festival days of the year or other important occasions. For example, the Bach Dang relic site is the occasion of the Bach Dang battle anniversary in the beginning of the third lunar month, the Tran Dynasty and Yen Tu heritage sites are the occasion to commemorate the day of King Tran Nhan Tong entering nirvana in the beginning of the eleventh lunar month every year, or the Quan Lan festival, Tra Co communal house festival in the sixth lunar month... According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the number of visitors to the relics and festivals in the province reached 8.5 million, a very significant number contributing to the total number of 19 million visitors to Quang Ninh this year.

Ha Long is expected to welcome 10.6 million tourists this year.

With the advantage of a coastal area with a long coastline and many beautiful islands, summer is always the peak season for tourism in Quang Ninh. This year, the key summer tourism destinations in Quang Ninh such as Ha Long, Co To, Mong Cai, Van Don all have strong growth in the number of visitors. Of which, Ha Long is estimated to welcome 10.6 million visitors throughout the year, similarly Mong Cai is estimated to welcome 4 million visitors, Van Don is estimated to welcome 1.82 million visitors, Co To is expected to welcome 310,000 visitors, all higher than the adjusted increase plan assigned by the province.

Many high-end accommodation, resort, products and services on the islands have been invested in by businesses on a large scale, such as: Wyndham Garden Sonasea Van Don, Angsana Quan Lan, Grand Pioneers cruise ship... Another special point is the increase in international visitors to Quang Ninh since the beginning of the year, including many super-rich guests, as well as the return of cruise ships not only in autumn, winter and spring, but also luxury cruise ships bringing visitors to Ha Long, Quang Ninh in the summer...

Efforts to "weather the storm"

Based on the results and strong growth of Quang Ninh tourism in spring and summer, the province has developed Plan No. 177-UBND dated August 6, 2024 on implementing solutions to attract an additional 2 million tourists this year. Thereby, the number of visitors to Quang Ninh is expected to reach a record of 19 million, including 3.5 million international visitors. However, just 1 month later, super typhoon Yagi hit, causing severe damage to most tourist facilities and destinations in the province. Natural disasters are unpredictable, but with the devastation after the storm, realizing the above goals is much more difficult.

Wyndham Garden Sonasea Van Don Resort has just been invested and put into operation since this summer.

Efforts to overcome the unprecedented heavy damage, together with the support of the province, localities, businesses and tourism establishments seem to be more resilient than ever. Cruise ships that were only damaged by storms were refurbished and repaired; sunken ships were gradually salvaged, ships were renovated, repaired, and ships were converted to get capital to invest in larger, more durable steel-hulled ships, capable of ensuring safety and being more resistant to wind and waves. Damaged houses and tourism facilities were gradually repaired and restored. Flooded areas were reinforced to protect constructions and trees; the water receded and repaired as it receded. Fallen trees were pruned and replanted...

Many large enterprises have determined to be proactive in order to avoid service interruptions, accepting additional costs to invest in retaining pre-booked groups of guests. Just like that, many establishments and enterprises have gradually revived after the storm with a brighter new look and a more stable position. By the end of November, more than 300 enterprises in the tourism service supply chain in many fields in Quang Ninh, such as: Hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions, cruise ships... have agreed to participate in the cooperation to stimulate tourism "Quang Ninh - Four-season destination". The program will deploy over 350 stimulus packages until the end of the first quarter of 2025 with a series of products and services for tourists with deep discounts of up to 50%...

According to reports from localities, all cities, districts and towns in the area estimate that the number of tourists for the whole year will reach and exceed the target set by the province in attracting an additional 2 million visitors as mentioned above. Localities assigned low numbers but in reality have a much higher rate than the target, such as: Tien Yen, Binh Lieu, Dong Trieu, Dam Ha, Cam Pha, Hai Ha, Mong Cai... These are mostly localities that do not receive a large number of visitors but are also localities with many advantages in welcoming autumn and winter tourists with the attraction of traditional indigenous culture as well as organizing many cultural, sports and tourism events at the end of the year.

Target to welcome over 20 million visitors

In 2025, Quang Ninh has determined the task of continuing the goal of sustainable tourism development. Accordingly, it will urgently complete and implement the Project to develop Quang Ninh into a tourism center connecting with the region and the world by 2030, with a vision to 2045. Promote investment attraction for high-quality tourism and service projects, develop golf courses according to the plan; speed up the investment progress to upgrade the Bach Dang National Special Historical Relic Complex to become a destination for domestic and foreign tourists to visit and learn about the culture and history of the patriotic tradition, preserving the sovereignty of the Vietnamese people.

The Bach Dang National Special Relic Site is expected to accelerate investment and upgrade in 2025, becoming a destination for tourists from all over the world.

Along with that, build key tourism centers in the localities of Ha Long, Cam Pha, Van Don, Mong Cai, Uong Bi, Co To; connect and develop flights through Van Don International Airport, and sea tourism routes. Diversify forms and tourism products, improve the quality and competitiveness of tourism services, especially high-end resort tourism products, island tourism, Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long, community tourism, cultural, historical and spiritual tourism... Strengthen management of the tourism environment, ensure security and safety; strictly handle violations of the law according to regulations. Striving to welcome over 20 million tourists by 2025, including 4.5 million international visitors.
