Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the Central provinces have launched a series of new tourism programs and products as well as organized many attractive activities and events to stimulate demand and attract tourists.
Many bustling tourist attractions in Hanoi
Hanoi Department of Tourism said that during the 3-day New Year holiday in 2024, the number of tourists coming to Hanoi is estimated to reach 402,000, an increase of 65% over the same period last year. Of which, international visitors are estimated to reach 72,000, an increase of 2.1 times; domestic visitors are estimated to reach 330,000, an increase of 59%. Total revenue from tourists is estimated to reach nearly 1,500 billion VND, an increase of 73% over the same period in 2023.
At tourist attractions, relics, museums, parks, eco-tourism areas, and resorts in the area, the number of visitors increased sharply. Hoan Kiem Lake - vicinity and Hanoi Old Quarter tourist area welcomed about 150,000 visitors, Hanoi Zoo welcomed 24,653 visitors, Hoa Lo Prison Relic welcomed 6,090 visitors, Temple of Literature welcomed 15,500 visitors, Thang Long Imperial Citadel Relic welcomed 9,098 visitors, Museum of Ethnology welcomed nearly 4,500 visitors, Ba Vi National Park welcomed nearly 4,800 visitors...

Also during the 3-day Tet holiday, the average room occupancy rate of the hotel block is estimated at about 60% (of which, domestic guests are estimated at about 35.3%; international guests are estimated at about 24.7%); an increase of 7.8% over the same period in 2023.
Some 4-5 star hotels, apartments or in the old quarter area and homestays, suburban resorts have high room occupancy rates such as: Capella reaching 90%; Lacasa Hotel about 90%; Grand Vista Hanoi 76.4%; Lasieta 85%; Flower Garden 84%; Conifer 73%; Pullman 67.25%; Wyndham 57%; Sunway Hanoi 74%; JW Mariott 71.4%; Novotel Thai Ha 60%...
At commercial centers, shopping, dining, and entertainment, the number of visitors and purchasing power increased, with estimated revenue increasing by about 16% over the same period in 2023. According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, with good revenue and attracting a large number of visitors during the New Year holiday, tourist areas and attractions have launched many new tourism programs and products as well as organized many attractive activities and events to stimulate demand and attract tourists.
Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang said that to ensure safe and quality Tet tourism activities, the department has established an inspection team to rectify tourism businesses, and handle acts of stalking, soliciting, forcing prices, and exploiting customers... at destinations.
Ho Chi Minh City welcomes 1.65 million visitors
On January 1, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, in coordination with Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet and Tan Son Nhat International Airport, held a ceremony to welcome a group of tourists to Ho Chi Minh City in early 2024 at the international terminal of Tan Son Nhat Airport.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, this is an activity to demonstrate the friendly and hospitable culture of the city to visitors from near and far; at the same time, it is also an activity to mark and start new breakthroughs in the tourism industry in the new year.
The first groups of visitors to the city on New Year's Day were treated to performances of calligraphy, folk art made from coconut leaves and clay figurines, performances of traditional musical instruments by artisans, and springtime lucky bamboo picking.
Regarding activities to attract tourists during the 2024 New Year, travel businesses in Ho Chi Minh City have continued to deploy over 100 attractive and diverse tourism products associated with the characteristics of Thu Duc City and 21 districts.
In particular, the Department of Tourism coordinated with the People's Committee of Can Gio district to organize the announcement of the Thieng Lieng community tourism destination phase 2, contributing to improving the quality of service experience at this destination.
According to statistics, the number of visitors to tourist attractions and entertainment areas during the New Year holiday in the city is estimated at 1.65 million, up 3.1% over the same period last year. Of which, international visitors to the city are estimated at 46,528, up 86.1%.
The number of guests staying was about 225,700, up 5%; room occupancy rate was estimated at about 87%. Tourism revenue was estimated at about 6,400 billion VND, up 7.7%.
Quang Nam welcomes 91,000 international visitors
In the Central region, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, said that during the 2024 New Year holiday, the number of visitors and guests staying in Quang Nam increased sharply compared to last year.
Specifically, in the 3 days from December 30, 2023 to January 1, 2024, the total number of visitors and tourists staying in Quang Nam province is estimated at 103,000, an increase of 130% over the same period in 2023. Of which, international visitors are estimated at 91,000, an increase of 169% over the same period in 2023, domestic visitors are estimated at 12,000, an increase of 10% over the same period in 2023.
Room occupancy rate for 4-5 star hotels is about 80%-90% in areas near and within the old quarter, while accommodation facilities far from the city center and near the beach are not high.
Meanwhile, due to unfavorable weather conditions, some tourist areas and spots in the province received very few visitors during this time, such as Cu Lao Cham Biosphere Reserve, Phu Ninh Lake Eco-tourism Area, etc.
According to Mr. Hong, on the occasion of this New Year, Hoi An City - Quang Nam Province organized a series of attractive activities, bringing many experiences, connecting people and tourists from all over the world to visit and travel in Hoi An such as: the announcement ceremony of "Hoi An joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2023"; the "Hoi An Welcomes New Year 2024" gala; performances, folk dance exchanges, Hoi An Youth - Countdown Party 2024 ... attracting a large number of tourists.
Kien Giang strives to welcome 9.2 million visitors
According to the Department of Tourism of Kien Giang province, up to now, the whole province has attracted 317 investment projects in the tourism sector, with an area of 9,663 hectares and a total investment capital of nearly 372,500 billion VND. Most of them are concentrated in Phu Quoc city with 274 projects, an area of 9,395 hectares and a total capital of more than 367.70 billion VND. The whole province currently has 950 accommodation establishments with 33,595 rooms.
In 2023, the number of tourists to Kien Giang reached more than 8.5 million, an increase of 15.3% over the same period. International visitors reached more than 573,000, an increase of 203.3%. Total revenue from tourism reached more than 17,400 billion VND, an increase of 65.1%.
In 2024, Kien Giang province's tourism industry strives to welcome 9.2 million visitors; of which, international visitors are estimated to welcome 680,000. Total revenue is estimated at 20,000 billion VND. The total number of accommodation establishments is estimated at 970, with 34,000 rooms...
Mr. Nguyen Luu Trung, Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee, said that the Provincial People's Committee is preparing to submit to the Government for approval the "Project to build Phu Quoc into a high-quality tourism, eco-tourism, sea and island tourism center of national and international stature". At the same time, promote promotion, linkage activities, and cooperation in developing international tourism. Strengthen state management of tourism, review and rectify tourism accommodation business activities, travel service businesses, tour guides, and tourist areas/destinations in the area in 2024.
