The 2,000 billion bridge project connecting Hai Phong - Quang Ninh is about to reach the finish line

By the end of August 2023, the contractor completed more than 62% of the work volume of the Ben Rung Bridge construction investment project connecting Hai Phong - Quang Ninh.

According to information from the People's Committee of Hai Phong City, in order to create an inter-regional traffic connection system, meeting the transportation needs between industrial parks and industrial clusters as well as the travel needs of people between Hai Phong City and Quang Ninh Province, on December 22, 2020, the People's Council of Hai Phong City passed Resolution No. 50/NQ-HDND deciding on the investment policy of the Ben Rung Bridge Project connecting Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong City and Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh Province.

On November 12, 2021, the People's Committee of Hai Phong City approved the Ben Rung Bridge Project in Decision No. 3279/QD-UBND, then adjusted it in Decision No. 4541/QD-UBND dated December 30, 2022. The Hai Phong Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board was assigned to represent the investor. The project implementation period is from 2021 to 2024.

Accordingly, the investment in building a new Ben Rung bridge with permanent structure across Da Bach river (also known as Da Bac river) with a bridge length of nearly 1.9 km. The main bridge and approach bridge are 21.5 m wide, the approach roads at both ends of the bridge are nearly 410 m long. The project has a total investment of more than 1,941 billion VND, including: the central budget of about more than 1,100 billion VND, Hai Phong budget of more than 835 billion VND and Quang Ninh province of 5.5 billion VND.

By the end of July 2023, Hai Phong City and Quang Ninh Province will complete site clearance for the Ben Rung Bridge construction investment project.

To serve the Ben Rung Bridge Project, the two local authorities reclaimed nearly 11 hectares of land in Gia Duc Commune, Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong City and 7.5 hectares in Hiep Hoa Commune, Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh Province. The Ben Rung Bridge Project officially started construction on May 13, 2022, on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day.

Due to some difficulties and problems, mainly related to site clearance, after more than a year of construction, by May 2023, the contractor had completed less than 50% of the work. Meanwhile, according to the plan, the project would be completed within 24 months from the start of construction.

Faced with this situation, the authorities of Hai Phong City and Quang Ninh Province requested relevant departments, agencies as well as localities with land recovered for the project to focus on site clearance. Thanks to that, by the end of May 2023, Hai Phong City had handed over the entire cleared site to the construction unit. Quang Ninh Province also completed site clearance in July 2023.

By the end of August 2023, the contractor completed 356/380 bored piles and is constructing 36/38 piers and piers of the Ben Rung Bridge construction investment project connecting Hai Phong - Quang Ninh.

The Hai Phong Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board informed that after receiving the entire clean site, the investor requested the Ben Rung Bridge Project construction unit, the joint venture of Trung Chinh - Phuong Thanh - Cau 3 Thang Long - Freyssinet Vietnam - Khang Nguyen, to concentrate machinery, equipment, and human resources to urgently construct according to plan.

Thanks to that, the contractor has completed the power supply system on both sides of Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city. The beam casting yard and construction camp on the Quang Ninh side have also been completed. Out of a total of 380 bored piles, the contractor has completed 356 piles and is constructing 36/38 abutment and pier positions. The estimated construction volume has reached more than 62% of the total work volume.

According to information from the Hai Phong Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, along with urging contractors to ensure progress, the unit arranges forces to regularly inspect and supervise construction to ensure safety and quality of the project.

It is expected that the Ben Rung Bridge construction investment project will be completed before the Lunar New Year in 2024, thereby contributing to the completion of the transportation network of Hai Phong City, Quang Ninh Province and the Northern key economic region, promoting the socio-economic development of both localities .
