On the afternoon of July 17, the People's Committee of Hai Phong City held a ceremony to open Ben Rung Bridge connecting Hai Phong with Quang Ninh. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and leaders of ministries, departments, Hai Phong City and Quang Ninh Province attended the ceremony.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung said that Ben Rung Bridge is a special traffic project with a length of 1,865m across Da Bach River, including 4 motor vehicle lanes and 2 mixed lanes.
Hai Phong City invested 1,941 billion VND to build the bridge. Quang Ninh Province invested 360 billion VND to build the 2.2km long approach road.
“The putting into use of Ben Rung Bridge is an important result of the implementation of the cooperation minutes between the Standing Committee of Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee and the Standing Committee of Hai Phong City Party Committee.
Once put into operation, Ben Rung Bridge will improve traffic capacity as well as promote economic development of both localities, together with Hanoi, it will form an important growth pole of the North and the whole country," emphasized Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung.
Ben Rung Bridge started construction on May 13, 2022. After more than 20 months of construction, the bridge was closed in January 2024.
Initially, Hai Phong City planned to open Ben Rung Bridge to traffic on the occasion of Hai Phong Liberation Day (May 13). However, due to the unfinished construction of the Ben Rung Bridge approach road project (Quang Ninh side), the opening had to be postponed.
Currently, instead of having to wait for the Rung ferry for 30-60 minutes or go around National Highway 18 for an additional 40km, people in Thuy Nguyen district (Hai Phong) and Quang Yen town (Quang Ninh) only need 5 minutes to cross Ben Rung bridge.
