On December 3, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien inspected the progress of the Quang Tri Airport project.
Reporting at the inspection point, the Quang Tri Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board said that the Quang Tri Airport Component 2 construction project is focusing on deploying equipment, machinery and human resources to construct the aircraft parking lot and material curb with a total area of 32,917 m2.
In which, the parking lot section has an area of 30,600 m2 and has completed the construction of crushed stone aggregate, cement concrete construction within the parking lot area of 7,324 m3/8,000.34 m3 (reaching 92%); the construction area of parking lot material edge is 2,371 m2, has completed the work of clearing the ground, organic excavation, weathering stripping and is expected to be completed in January 2025.

Internal service roads have completed the gravel paving connecting from Road 73 to the parking area and the project's auxiliary area, with a length of 2,560 m; service roads No. 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 have completed the gravel pavement and connect to the cement concrete mixing station, the auxiliary area and the parking area; service roads No. 1 and 7 are stuck because many tombs have not been relocated and are being locally adjusted in their route direction; service road No. 6 is 678 m long, the contractor is locating the scope of impact on people's land and crops to serve as a basis for compensation support.
To implement the project, Quang Tri province has approved the project to clear the land for the construction of Quang Tri Airport with a total investment of more than 233.1 billion VND; total area of 265.3 hectares, of which the core area is 135.5 hectares. The project is assigned to Gio Linh District People's Committee as the investor, the project implementation period is 2023 - 2024.
According to the report of Gio Linh District People's Committee, the current capital allocated for the project is 110.9 billion VND, of which the disbursed capital is more than 103.7 billion VND. The project has completed land clearance of 209.44 hectares and has allocated 140.5 hectares of land to the investor (core area 72.4 hectares).
Of which, Gio Quang commune has a cleared area of 103.2 hectares and has completed clearing 99.22 hectares; the remaining 3.98 hectares are stuck in the compensation price for 7 cases of forest land and 2 cases of tombs. Gio Mai commune has a cleared area of 150.1 hectares and has completed clearing 102.31 hectares; 30 affected households in the remaining area are developing plans for compensation support and resettlement, temporary residence. Gio Hai commune has a cleared area of 12.1 hectares and has completed clearing 7.9 hectares; in the remaining 4.2 hectares affecting 8 households, 68 cases of agricultural land, 33 cases of tombs are being mobilized and supported for compensation.
For resettlement projects, the design consultant has completed the feasibility study report, however, due to exceeding the total investment, the site clearance council is submitting the project to competent authorities for adjustment.
After listening to the report and inspecting the project site, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien requested Gio Linh district to focus human resources and time to complete the land acquisition for the remaining area. In particular, the priority is given to the land acquisition for the remaining core area of 26.26 hectares, especially the cases within the runway to promptly hand over the land to the investor for construction.
Vice Chairman Le Duc Tien assigned the Department of Transport to coordinate with Gio Linh district and related units to remove obstacles in site clearance work. It is necessary to report to the Provincial People's Committee to organize a dialogue with households.

On the investor side, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien requested the investor to complete the appraisal of the runways as soon as possible to speed up the construction progress; assign the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board and relevant agencies to coordinate with Quang Tri Electricity Company to relocate the power lines to clear the site for handover to the project.
The Quang Tri Airport construction investment project was approved by the Prime Minister for investment in construction under the public-private partnership (PPP) method in Decision No. 2148/QD-TTg dated December 20, 2021 and the Feasibility Study Report was approved by the People's Committee of Quang Tri province in August 2023; and officially commenced on July 6, 2024;
The project is implemented in Gio Quang, Gio Hai and Gio Mai communes (Gio Linh district), with a scale of more than 265 hectares, a total investment of more than 5,800 billion VND, built to meet CHK level 4C standards (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO) and a level II military airport, capable of developing and exploiting Code E aircraft, meeting the exploitation needs of up to 5 million passengers/year and 25,500 tons of cargo/year.
The consortium of T&T Transport Infrastructure Investment and Development Company Limited and CIENCO4 Group Joint Stock Company won the bid for the project. The project implementation period is 50 years, of which the project preparation and construction investment period is 24 months; the operation and toll collection period for capital recovery is 47 years and 2 months. It is expected that Quang Tri Airport will be put into operation and use by July 2026.
