Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ho's family (39 years old, living in Ngoc Boi village, Huong Trach commune, Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh) harvests an average of 5,000 Phuc Trach grapefruits each year.
With a selling price of 30,000-35,000 VND/fruit, Mr. Ho's family earns more than 100 million VND/year after deducting expenses.

Since the beginning of this year, Mr. Ho has joined the commune's "Farmers' Club for Pensions" and has been instructed on how to practice saving, and deducting a portion of his income from grapefruit trees to participate in various types of insurance.
After that, Mr. Ho's family decided to set aside a Phuc Trach grapefruit tree with the best yield (over 100 fruits/year) to pay the minimum social insurance.
"Having a grapefruit tree to pay for insurance does not affect our daily life much. Instead, my family will have financial support, peace of mind about life and health care when we are no longer able to work," Mr. Ho shared.

Huong Khe district is the largest "capital" of growing Phuc Trach grapefruit in the Central region with a growing area of 2,768 hectares.
This year, according to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Huong Khe district, the total output of Phuc Trach grapefruit in the district reached nearly 23,000 tons.
Huong Khe district currently has over 18,000 farmer members, but only over 12% of members participate in voluntary social insurance.
With the goal of helping farmers have pensions when they retire, the Farmers' Association of Huong Khe district has built a pilot model of "Insurance Grapefruit Tree" in Ngoc Boi village, Huong Trach commune.
Up to now, the model has attracted 40 members to participate and is being replicated in the district with the goal of striving for at least one model in each commune.

Mr. Dinh Cong Tiu, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Huong Khe district, said that with this model, farmers only need to choose 1-2 grapefruit trees to take care of, and when the harvest season comes, they can sell the fruit to cover the insurance costs.
Huong Khe is a mountainous district, people's lives depend on manual labor, so when they get old, it will be difficult to ensure independence and make ends meet.
"Therefore, the "Insurance Grapefruit Tree" model has been warmly welcomed and responded to by the people after its launch. Later, people will receive pension payments when they are no longer able to work or reach retirement age," said Mr. Tiu.
