On the afternoon of January 23, Mr. Khuat Viet Hung, Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, worked with Da Nang authorities about the passenger bus falling into the abyss and solutions to ensure traffic safety on the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway.

Mr. Hung requested the authorities to verify the continuous driving time of more than four hours of driver Phuong Thanh Tung (36 years old, residing in Dak Lak province).
According to Mr. Hung, the vehicle's tracking device has not been working for the past two days. The driver knew there were regulations on tracking the vehicle but did not check whether the device was working before leaving the station. Mr. Hung directed that this issue needs to be clarified.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Road Administration, said that driver Phuong Thanh Tung was only granted a Class E driver's license on March 16, 2022, proving that this driver does not have many years of experience driving long-distance passenger cars.
Mr. Bui Hong Trung, Director of the Department of Transport and Deputy Head of the Traffic Safety Committee of Da Nang, said that the Hoa Vang District Police (Da Nang) are coordinating with relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the accident.
The police also tested driver Phuong Thanh Tung for drugs and alcohol, and the results showed that he did not violate the law.
Also at the meeting, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Hong Hai, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of Da Nang Police, said that the La Son - Hoa Lien section (part of the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway) was predicted by functional units to have potential traffic accidents.
City authorities have surveyed, evaluated and identified many causes of traffic accidents on the route.

Recently, the Traffic Police force has increased patrols and within half a month, they have handled nearly 70 cases of speeding violations on this route.
According to Mr. Hai, traffic safety violations on the route have been controlled recently. The Department continues to coordinate with functional units to clarify the cause of the accident and check the remaining shortcomings to handle and ensure traffic safety on the entire route.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Director of Road Management Area III (Vietnam Road Administration), said that in the km36 section alone, there have been 2 accidents in the past month.
To minimize traffic accidents, Mr. Binh recommended that the Da Nang Traffic Police force further strengthen patrols and handle violations related to speed, overtaking... for vehicles traveling on the route.
Mr. Binh also recommended installing lighting systems, surveillance cameras, and that network operators add broadcasting stations along the route to serve rescue operations when necessary.

Director of the Da Nang Department of Transport Bui Hong Trung proposed to soon upgrade and expand the La Son - Hoa Lien section to ensure traffic safety, as well as improve operational efficiency.
On behalf of the leaders of Da Nang city, Mr. Le Quang Nam, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, said that through statistics on the causes of accidents in the area, many cases were self-inflicted accidents, depending on the traffic awareness of the drivers. Mr. Nam also proposed upgrading and expanding the La Son - Hoa Lien section.
