With expected changes in admission regulations, many universities have plans to adjust admission methods and combinations in 2025.
Expected changes in enrollment plan
The Ministry of Education and Training is seeking comments on the draft circular amending and supplementing a number of articles of the regulations on admission to university and college levels in preschool education, from now until January 22, 2025.
New points in the draft are receiving attention, notably the regulation that early admission quotas cannot exceed 20% of the quotas of each training industry and group of industries.
If the regulation is passed and applied in 2025, it will greatly affect the admission process of both training institutions and candidates.
With expected changes in admission regulations, up to this point, many universities have planned to adjust their admission plans for 2025.
Dr. Pham Thanh Ha, Head of Training Department of the University of Transport, said that in 2025, the school plans to maintain the general training target for the entire school but will adjust it to prioritize training programs/majors related to the fields of high-speed railways and urban railways, and microchips and semiconductors.
The University of Transport will maintain the same admission method and combination as last year. However, after the Ministry of Education and Training officially issued the 2025 admission regulations, Dr. Pham Thanh Ha said that the school will make appropriate adjustments to ensure fairness and efficiency in admission.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Pham Minh Son, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, the school currently does not have a specific enrollment plan for 2025. However, the Academy will basically maintain the same scale as previous years. As for the enrollment plan, it is expected that there will be some changes and adjustments according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Reduce admission methods
According to the 2025 enrollment plans announced by universities, some schools plan to reduce some methods and adjust the subject combinations for admission.
From 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University will reduce admission methods to 3 methods, including: direct admission, admission based on the results of the school-organized capacity assessment exam, and admission based on the results of the high school graduation exam.
This reduction in admission methods is supported by member universities of Ho Chi Minh City National University, who believe it will be fairer and less confusing for candidates.
In 2025, the National Economics University will continue to eliminate the high school transcript admission method and plans to keep 3 admission methods stable compared to 2024, including: direct admission; combined admission and admission based on high school graduation exam results in 2025.
With the admission method based on high school graduation exam results, the admission quota based on high school graduation exam results will be reduced by 3% from 18% in 2024 to 15% in 2025. In addition, the school will use 4 admission combinations instead of 9 combinations as in 2024, including A00, A01, D01, D07, with no difference in scores between the combinations, no additional criteria, all subjects are calculated with a coefficient of 1 when considering admission.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung - Deputy Head of the Department of Communications and Admissions of the University of Commerce said that the school's admission targets and admission methods in 2025 are still similar to previous years, without much change. However, the school will make adjustments to the admission combinations to comply with the regulations and add some combinations to facilitate students.
"The school plans to announce the 2025 enrollment plan earlier than every year. Currently, we are in the process of preparing the enrollment plan and will make it public as soon as the enrollment regulations are issued and there are instructions from the Ministry of Education and Training," Mr. Trung informed.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) said that the revised regulations are aimed at overcoming previous shortcomings and increasing fairness for candidates when participating in the admission process.
The regulation of not considering more than 20% of the admission quota early will help overcome the problems arising from early admission. Schools will not have to spend too much time and resources on this admission process or many 12th graders will neglect their studies when they know the admission results.
