According to the latest data from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in the first five months of 2024, Vietnam's squid and octopus export turnover reached 239 million USD, lower than the same period last year. Of which, squid export turnover decreased by 5% to 130 million USD; octopus increased by 5% to 109 million USD.
The 5 largest export markets for squid and octopus from Vietnam are: Korea, Japan, China & Hong Kong (China), Thailand and EU.
Particularly for the Chinese and Hong Kong (China) markets, China's ban on seafood imports from Japan has caused the country to increase imports from other sources, including Vietnam. China's demand for squid and octopus imports also increased in the first quarter of this year to serve the demand for Qingming Festival and Labor Day (May 1).

VASEP said that in the first quarter of 2024, the average export price of frozen octopus from Vietnam to China fluctuated from 3.5 to 4.9 USD/kg. The average export price of frozen squid fluctuated from 1.8 to 3.4 USD/kg. In the first 3 months of this year, octopus prices increased from January while squid prices tended to decrease from January.
