No "brand" festival yet
Along with the recovery and strong re-development of the tourism industry, recently in Quang Nam, a series of quite unique festivals have been formed and maintained, contributing significantly to stimulating tourism demand.
Some notable festivals associated with tourism activities in the province held in 2024 include: "Tam Ky - Sua flower season 2024" Festival, International Kite Festival - Quang Nam 2024, Ngoc Linh ginseng festival, "Cu Lao Cham - red corn season" Festival, A Rieu chili festival...
However, according to tourism businesses, no festival has really created a breakthrough to become a major festival brand and maintained periodically to attract a large number of tourists, becoming an unmissable meeting place, similar to what some localities in the region have done, such as the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival or Hue Festival...
Mr. Le Ngoc Thuan - Director of An Bang Event and Festival Organization Company said that the festivals in the province are organized with too scattered resources, a little here, a little there. Therefore, the resources cannot be mobilized and concentrated, leading to the festival having difficulty leaving an impression on visitors.
According to Ms. Than Thi Thu Huyen - Executive Director of "Hoi An Memory Island", some neighboring localities have organized festivals that created a big buzz, attracting a large number of tourists during the festival.
Therefore, the province needs to consider calling on local tourism businesses to cooperate in organizing an international festival with its own unique mark in Quang Nam, while the locality has many favorable conditions, especially in terms of culture.
The leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism acknowledged that maintaining a series of cultural and tourism festivals scattered throughout the year as in the past is very necessary to serve the needs of tourists coming to Quang Nam at all times of the year. However, it is true that no local festival has the stature to become a big brand.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2025, a number of notable festivals and tourism events will take place in the province, such as: "Tam Ky - Sua Flower Season" Festival; International Water Motor Racing Competition - Hoi An 2025; Quang Nam Culture, Sports and Tourism Week; Hoi An International Lantern Festival 2025; International Ngoc Linh Ginseng (Vietnamese Ginseng) Festival in Quang Nam province in 2025; Quang Noodle Festival - National Intangible Cultural Heritage...
Where to focus?
According to Mr. Le Ngoc Thuan, it is necessary to study and promote the international lantern festival. “This festival is internationally recognized in the commitment to build Hoi An into a global creative city of UNESCO. Therefore, the province and Hoi An city and businesses can join hands to organize this festival with the participation of many great domestic and international artists.
I think this festival has its own identity because when we mention lanterns, we immediately think of Hoi An. Of course, we will organize culinary, art, shopping activities... to increase the liveliness of the festival" - Mr. Thuan suggested.
It is known that the Hoi An International Lantern Festival 2025 is expected to take place in August 2025. This is one of the international initiatives that Hoi An City has registered in the application to join the UNESCO Global Creative Cities Network.
Meanwhile, in October 2024, a business in Ho Chi Minh City proposed to the province to organize the Green Tourism Journey Festival in Quang Nam province in 2025 with a series of events such as: International festival of hot air balloon and paragliding performances; National culinary festival; Quang Nam international tourism fashion week; International beer and beverage festival; Light festival and music and dance program using 3D Mapping technology and flying 1,000 international drones...
According to Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Thai Binh, in order for Quang Nam to organize an annual festival and create a deep impression on tourists, it is very necessary to have the help and advice of the association and the business community.
However, any festival needs a process and cannot create a buzz in “one or two days”. The number of visitors will increase gradually over time if the festival has an impressive highlight. In addition, if the festival is organized with a brand, it will also help promote tourism links between localities more effectively.
“Parties can consider promoting the international kite festival. This year, due to the low windy weather, it has not created a big highlight, so we need to consider a better time to organize it next year. In addition to kites, we can combine some other highlights such as hot air balloons, music, cuisine, and even Hoi An lanterns,” said Mr. Phan Thai Binh.
