The 24-meter-high Petroleum Monument at the 2/9 - Nguyen An Ninh intersection was relocated to Eo Ong Tu intersection - the gateway to Vung Tau City to resolve traffic congestion.
On November 22, the construction unit installed a protective fence around the Petroleum Monument at the 2/9 - Nguyen An Ninh intersection to begin dismantling and moving it to the park at the Eo Ong Tu intersection (Ward 12), more than 11 km away.
The Oil and Gas Monument with a 7.3 m concrete flame symbol and a pedestal shaped like the bow of the Mikhail Mirchin (the drilling ship that found the first oil in Bach Ho field in 1984), donated by the Vietnam - Russia Joint Venture Vietsovpetro. The structure is located in the middle of an intersection, with a diameter of up to 40 m, leading to traffic congestion during rush hours and holidays.

Mr. Tran Quoc Thinh, Director of Vung Tau City Construction Investment Project Management Board 2, said that the construction unit will dismantle the surrounding auxiliary items, the entire ship-shaped stone block, set up a scaffolding system to lower the relief and cut the flame, then use a crane to transport it to the new location.
The relocation is expected to be completed before December 15, returning the site to solve traffic congestion at the intersection leading to the city center during the New Year holiday.
At Eo Ong Tu, the base of the Petroleum Monument will be reduced to 30 m, the height of the statue will be raised to more than 27 m (raising the base of the statue) to ensure visibility in the future when building an overpass on Vo Nguyen Giap Street. The park here will also be paved with bricks, installed with lighting and decorated... The entire project is expected to be completed in 4 months. The total investment of the project is more than 38 billion VND, of which the budget is 3 billion VND, the rest is supported by the Vietnam - Russia Joint Venture Vietsovpetro.

Previously, to solve traffic congestion, the Department of Transport proposed to build a 600-meter-long underpass, costing about VND500 billion, under the Petroleum Monument connecting September 2nd Street to Thong Nhat Street. However, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province said that this was not the right time to implement the project, so they chose to move the monument.
