The Department of Education and Training of Bac Ninh City (Bac Ninh) has just proposed to the leaders of the Bac Ninh City People's Committee to allow a pilot program of teaching 5 days/week and Saturdays off at Suoi Hoa Secondary School, Ninh Xa Secondary School, Ve An Secondary School and Nguyen Dang Dao Secondary School.

100% of surveyed teachers support 5-day teaching

Specifically, Suoi Hoa Secondary School, Ninh Xa Secondary School and Ve An Secondary School will implement from the beginning of November 2024. Nguyen Dang Dao Secondary School will implement from January 20, 2025 (after the provincial excellent student competition).

Previously, the department directed a survey of needs with managers, teachers, parents, students and researched regulations on building educational plans, programs, and scientific timetables to ensure correct and sufficient official time for grades 6 and 7, which is 29 periods/week, and grades 8 and 9, which is 29.5 periods/week.

In the afternoon, schools proactively arrange additional activities for sports clubs, talent clubs, art clubs, reading stories, life skills training, etc.

Nguyen Dang Dao Secondary School can propose additional time and location to organize training for the city-level excellent student team of grades 6, 7, and 8 and the excellent student team of grade 9 participating in the provincial excellent student competition.

Through the survey, 100% of managers, teachers, students and over 95% of parents agreed and wanted the school to teach 5 days/week and have Saturdays off.

All secondary schools have developed educational plans and scientific timetables to meet the requirements of teaching 5 days a week and taking Saturdays off.

Teaching 5 sessions, Saturday off has many benefits

The Department of Education and Training of Bac Ninh city found that teaching from Monday to Friday and taking Saturday off is suitable for living conditions, work schedules and the wishes of many people.

For example, students will have less study pressure and more time to play, relax, participate in activities with family, relatives, friends or participate in experiences, practice sports, and talents when they have a full day off on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday off is also a legitimate need of secondary school staff, helping teachers rest and restore their energy for the next work week.

The Department of Education and Training of Bac Ninh city also requested principals of secondary schools in the city to propagate and organize for staff and teachers to sign a commitment not to teach or study extra classes against regulations.

Absolutely do not teach extra classes for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 on Saturdays and Sundays. Instruct homeroom teachers to coordinate with parents in managing students' time on weekends, forming students' self-study awareness.
