So that "the forest will grow green, the forest will protect the homeland"

In 2020, the Prime Minister approved the Project "Planting one billion trees in the period 2021-2025", which identified the role of planting and protecting forests of all levels of government and communities as extremely important.

So that

Summarizing 3 years of implementing the project, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that, in addition to localities with high results, many businesses and individuals have responded to the project through building programs and funds to call for acceptance and implementation of afforestation and tree planting.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, although the number of trees planted under the Project "Planting one billion trees" in the period of 2021-2025 has been relatively large, tree planting is also facing many difficulties. That is, the land fund for planting new forests is increasingly narrowing; investment capital allocated for annual forest development is still slow compared to requirements, the level of support for planting scattered trees and planting forests is still low compared to reality; the current planned land area for planting urban trees only accounts for about 1.2%, much lower than the urban planning standards set forth.

In the 2024-2025 period, the project continues to set a target of planting over 275 million trees, 98,210 hectares of forest equivalent to more than 216 million trees. Accordingly, the 2025 Spring Tree Planting Festival will initiate the determination of the whole country to realize the target of the number of trees and newly planted forest area in the last year of this period.

Launching the "Tet tree planting festival to forever remember Uncle Ho" in the Spring of At Ty 2025, Thanh Hoa province set a target of planting over 3 million trees, twice as high as the results achieved in 2020. This is a very ambitious number, so it also requires a higher responsibility and flexible solutions.

Recent tree planting festivals across the country show that, although hundreds of millions of trees have been planted, the area of reforestation, the number of shade trees, trees for landscaping, and environmental regulation are still not as expected. Because after being planted, trees still need to be cared for to ensure growth, which is not always possible in all residential areas.

The spirit of planting trees is very necessary and setting goals to strive for is also very important. However, to some extent, planting trees does not necessarily have to follow achievements. What is needed is that planting trees must be associated with the growth of trees, for a green future of Vietnam, for the sustainable development of the forestry industry. We have seen in recent years that some units and businesses have responded to tree planting with quite good slogans, with a large number of participants. However, the effectiveness of the movement is still a matter of debate.

In order for trees to grow into forests and “Forests will grow green/ Forests protect the homeland” as the beautiful lyrics in the song “A lifetime, a forest” require units and localities to have a truly serious and flexible attitude in planting trees. If the trees die, they must be replanted, and planting trees must be combined with care and monitoring of tree growth.

The goal is for each cadre and each household to plant at least one tree, successfully implementing the emulation movement "Everybody plants trees, every household plants trees, the whole population plants trees, plants forests", but definitely not planting trees indiscriminately, in a formal way that causes waste and expense. Only when planting trees and protecting planted trees becomes a truly serious task, an inherent need in agencies, units, businesses, and communities, can we put an end to the situation of planting trees on paper, and the forests will truly grow green to protect our homeland.
