People's Artist Bang Bac Hai was born in 1958, from Bac Giang, the son of screenwriter Bang Chau and the nephew of screenwriter Bang Bao. He is the second child in the family, his older sister is screenwriter Bang Mai Phuong, he also has a younger sister.
People's Artist Bang Bac Hai was trained in sound at LIKI University of Cinema (former Soviet Union), then worked at Vietnam Feature Film Studio, in charge of the Sound Recording and Film Editing Studio.
He was the sound director for most of the company's famous war films such as "Liberation of Saigon", "Memories of Dien Bien", "Don't Burn", "The Scent of Burning Grass"...
Before retiring, he worked at Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema, as Deputy Dean in charge of the Faculty of Cinematography.
Throughout his career, People's Artist Bang Bac Hai has won the Golden Kite Award for Outstanding Sound for many films, notably "Don't Burn" (analog sound) which won the Golden Kite Award in 2010, and "The Legend Writers" (digital sound) which won the Golden Kite Award in 2014. In addition, he also received two Golden Lotus Awards for sound design at the 17th Vietnam Film Festival. He was awarded the title of People's Artist in 2015.
Besides his mark in revolutionary films, People's Artist Bang Bac Hai also made many contributions in animated films such as "The Story of a Little Toad" (2009), "The Lost Fish" (2009), "The Dream of Loa Thanh" (2010), "The Spirit of Thang Long" (2010)...
