Con Co Island is ready for tourist season

Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy (38 years old, residing in Con Co island district, Quang Tri province) said that tourism is one of the activities that bring income to her family and other households living on Con Co island. Accordingly, Ms. Thuy's family has a restaurant serving tourists visiting the island. The largest group of visitors that Ms. Thuy's family has received since the beginning of the year is about 80 people.

Ms. Bui Thi Sao (40 years old) - who has many years of experience in the tourism sector in Con Co island district said that normally, the peak tourist season of the island district is around May - June every year. This is the time when students have summer vacation and also the time when organizations, agencies and units organize vacations for employees to relax during the summer.

Mr. Vo Viet Cuong, Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Co Island District, said that tourism is a key economic sector of the locality. At the end of March, the locality held a conference to launch the Con Co Tourism Year 2024.

To promote this key economic sector, the People's Committee of Con Co island district has decided to consolidate the Steering Committee for Tourism Development of Con Co island district for the period 2021 - 2025. Along with that, Con Co island district is currently rearranging and re-planning the system of accommodation locations, dining establishments, etc. to ensure serving the needs of visitors.

Regarding this issue, it is known that at the end of March 2024, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province decided to approve the project of using public assets for business purposes at the Con Co Island Service and Tourism Center.

Accordingly, from 2024 - 2028, the high-speed passenger ship ConCo Tourist will participate in transporting passengers from the mainland to Con Co island district and vice versa with a frequency of 3 trips/week (trip 1: Monday to the island, Tuesday to the mainland; trip 2: Thursday to the island, Friday to the mainland and trip 3: Saturday to the island, Sunday to the mainland).

The Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Co island district added that it is estimated that over the past month, more than 1,000 tourists have visited the island district.

“In 2024, we expect to welcome about 9,500 - 10,000 tourists to visit the island district, with estimated revenue of over 15 billion VND. We are also making plans and plan to organize an event in September 2024 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the district's founding, combined with celebrating some major holidays of the year to attract tourists to visit the locality,” said Mr. Vo Viet Cuong.

Mr. Vo Viet Cuong also hopes that the infrastructure system will continue to receive attention, investment, and improvement to promote the development of the tourism industry in particular and the socio-economic development in the area in general.
