“Ben Tre posture”

In 1980, the song "Ben Tre Posture" by musician Nguyen Van Ty was released, quickly attracting audiences nationwide.

In the 1980s, on professional stages as well as mass art stages, the smooth, emotional melody of this song always resounded: "Who stands like a coconut tree shadow, long hair flying in the wind/ Is the person still there a daughter of Ben Tre/ Years ago, walking through bullets and fire, walking like a flood/ Oh, the people who made the Dong Khoi movement".

After going with the group of musicians to Ben Tre to compose in practice, learning more about the "Dong Khoi homeland", the "long-haired army", the people's war and the resilient fighting tradition of the coconut land, in just one night,

Nguyen Van Ty has completed “Ben Tre Posture”. The song has a melody rich in Southern influences: “Every time I go far away, I miss you so much, coconut trees/ Orchards, lush fruits, the sea full of shrimp and fish/ I miss the long Ham Luong river, the wharf I used to stop at/ I also miss someone’s long hair, still carrying the Ben Tre posture”.

Musician Nguyen Van Ty once confided: During the war, he volunteered to go to B many times but was not able to go. After 1975, he and his family moved to Ho Chi Minh City. And it took him 5 years (1975 - 1980) to truly immerse himself and learn to be a Southerner to become almost a true Southerner, so that he could write "Ben Tre's Posture" with such a Southern character.

Musician Nguyen Van Ty (1924 - 2019), born in Vinh city, Nghe An, originally from Vinh Lac, Vinh Phuc province. After the August Revolution of 1945, he joined the army and served as Head of the Art Troupe of Division 304. In 1954, he returned to Hanoi to participate in the founding of the Vietnam Musicians Association, was a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Musicians Association, and was in charge of the Music magazine.

He is one of the most successful musicians in skillfully and fluently using folk songs from different regions in his compositions, creating a deep impression on the public.

He is also known for famous works such as "Echo", "Mother loves her child", "Crossing the ocean", "Song of five tons", "The soldier's shirt that mother patched in the past", "A song of the feelings of a Ha Tinh person", "I go to work for credit", "The person who builds Ke Go lake", "Spring she goes to raise children", "Song of Vietnamese women", "Seeing you off"...

In 2020, musician Nguyen Van Ty was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts with a cluster of 6 works, including "Ben Tre Posture".
