Ensure safety when turning on the power again after floods

Việt NamViệt Nam12/09/2024

Up to this point, in Phu Tho, many areas and households have had electricity restored, ensuring safety for people's daily life. However, there are still some areas in Viet Tri city and Ha Hoa, Doan Hung, Phu Ninh districts... without electricity due to being in flooded areas.

Ensuring electrical safety for people after floods is extremely important. In addition to focusing on efforts to overcome and handle incidents, the Electricity Industry also promotes and recommends measures for safe electricity use.

Ensure safety when turning on the power again after floods

Employees of Ha Hoa Power Company lift the meter box at column 1.2.2 behind Dong Lam 4 substation due to rising flood water to ensure safety for the power grid, people and equipment.

To ensure electrical safety for customers, after monitoring, checking, and determining areas that meet safety conditions, the units will then turn on the power supply. For some power lines and transformer stations that are deeply flooded and do not ensure safe power supply, the Company has directed the units to temporarily not turn on the power to ensure safety for the people.

Along with that, the Company has directed its affiliated units to coordinate with localities to propagate and advise people to strictly implement the provisions of the law on electrical safety after the water recedes, such as: After the water recedes, the environment is still wet, the risk of electrical safety is very high. In areas that are still deeply flooded, people need to turn off all circuit breakers and circuit breakers of the electrical system in the family; unplug the power cords and power sources for devices from the power source; check the safety of the lines after the meter... When turning the power back on, people should not plug or turn the power back on immediately after the power is restored.

Accordingly, you should sequentially plug in or turn on low-value electrical devices, leave them for a while to check the stability of the power grid system. When the power is really stable, continue to plug in or turn on other electrical devices.

Viet Tri City Electricity staff fix the problem of low voltage pole falling after storm

Up to now, some areas in Viet Tri city and Doan Hung and Phu Ninh districts have been affected with about 15,000 customers without electricity.

Ha Hoa District is a locality that has been heavily affected by storm No. 3 and the flood situation in recent days. Talking to us, Mr. Tran Huy Quang - Director of Ha Hoa Power Company said: "At 5:00 p.m. on September 11, 2024, after the flood receded, we inspected the power lines and found that they met the operating standards, so we restored power to Ha Hoa Water Supply Enterprise and the communes: Vinh Chan, Lang Son, Minh Hac, Ha Hoa town, Minh Coi, Van Lang, Bang Gia, Vo Tranh, Xuan Ang, Hien Luong. For the areas that are currently flooded, the unit continues to monitor, when ensuring safety conditions, we promptly restore power. We propagate to the people measures to use electricity safely to minimize electrical accidents that may occur due to leakage and short circuits".

In the face of the complicated flood situation, Phu Tho Electricity Company recommends that people in the province comply with measures to ensure safe use of electricity when the power is restored after the flood. Accordingly, when the water recedes and there is no electricity, electrical equipment in the home must be carefully checked before use to avoid short circuits, fires, and dangers to people and equipment due to long-term humid environments.

Turn off all circuit breakers and main circuit breakers in the house. Unplug the power cord and power source for electrical equipment from the power source. Check the line after the electric meter, it is the property and responsibility of the household to ensure safety when energizing. When discovering locations of broken, scattered or short-circuited power lines on construction works, immediately notify the electricity unit via hotline 19006769.

Absolutely do not plug in or turn on all electrical devices at the same time, or high-power devices such as water heaters, air conditioners, irons, washing machines... Observe and listen to the surroundings to detect signs of electrical short circuits and immediately notify the nearest power unit for timely support.
