At the meeting, Ambassador Vu Quang Minh expressed his personal thanks to the Mayor and the Cottbus city government for always paying attention, creating conditions and supporting the Vietnamese community in Cottbus to successfully integrate.
The Ambassador said that 35 years ago, Vietnamese people first came to Cottbus to learn a trade and start a new life, and the Vietnamese Association in the city recently organized a big event to celebrate this memorable milestone.
According to the Ambassador, relations between Vietnam and Germany are developing very positively in all areas, especially after Prime Minister Olaf Scholz's visit to Vietnam in November 2022. This is a good premise for the two countries, as well as between Cottbus and Vietnamese localities, to continue promoting relations.
The Ambassador hoped that Cottbus would consider establishing a sister city with a Vietnamese city, thereby enhancing cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. In addition, the two sides could also promote cooperation in the fields of higher education and vocational training, including nursing.
Expressing his gratitude to the city of Cottbus for receiving the Vietnamese elephant "Don Chung" from Leipzig Zoo to its new home in Cottbus, the Ambassador hoped that this would be one of the attractions and attract people in Cottbus and neighboring areas to visit.
For his part, Mayor Tobias Schick appreciated the integration and general contributions of the Vietnamese community in Cottbus city, contributing to the diversity and prosperity of the city.
The mayor expressed his appreciation for the hardworking and friendly Vietnamese community, and said that his father during the German Democratic Republic also worked in support of and assistance to Vietnamese workers at the IFA factory in Ludwigsfelde (Brandenburg state) and visited Vietnam twice.
Mayor Schick expressed his desire to promote cooperation between Cottbus and Vietnam, especially in the field of vocational training, and said that there are currently over 80 Vietnamese nurses being trained and working in Cottbus.
He also appreciated the idea of establishing a sister city relationship between Cottbus and a Vietnamese city and would be interested in this plan, while looking forward to having the opportunity to discuss more deeply and specifically about cooperation plans in the coming time.
