Instead of writing calligraphy like the Year of the Tiger, Ambassador Marc Knapper and his wife meticulously wrote New Year greeting cards in Braille and sent them to equally special people: artist Xuan Bac, two blind children and an English teacher.
The content of the card was spread by the recipients to the Vietnamese people: "Hello, I hope you had a happy and joyful Year of the Tiger with your loved ones. Wishing you a prosperous and peaceful New Year of the Cat.
Please join me in spreading warm New Year wishes to everyone. Thank you."
Last year, on the morning of the third day of Tet, Ambassador Marc Knapper started the spring with a pair of calligraphy letters "Hello Vietnam / Happy New Year" as a way to express his love and affection to the Vietnamese people on the occasion of the new spring.
Mr. Marc Knapper was approved by the US Senate as Ambassador to Vietnam in December 2021. He previously held the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Japan and Korea, working in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs of the US Department of State.
The US Ambassador has over 25 years of experience in foreign policy and diplomacy, spending many years on policy issues and cultural and linguistic research in East Asia. He served as Political Counselor at the US Embassy in Hanoi for 3 years (2004 - 2007). He not only speaks Vietnamese but is also fluent in Japanese and Korean.
