"The past year has been an important year for our two countries because we have expanded our relationship in almost every area. This is a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in which the United States and Vietnam openly and actively work towards the common prosperity and future security of both countries," Ambassador Knapper said at the seminar "A Strong Year: Celebrating the US-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership", held on September 19 in Hanoi. "In other words, a successful Vietnam means a successful America, and a successful America means a successful Vietnam," the diplomat emphasized. More than a year ago, on September 10, 2023, US President Joe Biden visited Vietnam and met with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The two leaders agreed to elevate the Vietnam-US relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation and Sustainable Development. One year after this historic event, Mr. Knapper reviewed the bright spots in cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade and investment, education and training, science and technology, health, environment, climate change response, clean and sustainable energy, defense, and overcoming the consequences of war. He reiterated that one of the focuses of cooperation is that the US wants to cooperate with Vietnam to help build a stronger and more valuable semiconductor industry, as well as attract more foreign investment. According to the diplomat, many world- class US companies are investing or want to expand their investment in Vietnam, such as high-tech "eagles" Intel, Amkor... "These are the world's leading good companies and they want to be present in Vietnam, helping to make Vietnam an attractive place for high-tech investors," he emphasized. To catch up with this wave of investment, the US diplomat said that an important factor is that Vietnam needs high-quality and skilled labor . The United States and Vietnam are working together to develop their workforce, including training and education, to ensure that workers have the skills needed to adapt to 21st century industries. The United States recently announced a new initiative to help Vietnam train electrical engineers, computer scientists, technicians, and also train teachers to expand training and education activities. The US diplomat also highlighted the cooperation activities between the two countries in the energy sector. He appreciated Vietnam's direct power purchase agreement mechanism, a very important step that demonstrates Vietnam's commitment to allowing companies and investors to access clean and reliable energy sources. He also reiterated Vietnam's goal of gradually making English a second language. He affirmed that the United States wants to support this process, with many programs to promote English education, as well as in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields. He assessed that the potential for cooperation between Vietnam and the US is still very large. Vietnam is the 8th largest trading partner of the US, while the US is the number 1 export market of Vietnam. In addition to investments from the US and Vietnam, he also looks forward to investments from Vietnam in the US. According to him, these activities will create jobs, helping the two countries get closer together. Towards the 30th anniversary of normalization of relations , the US Ambassador emphasized that 2025 will mark the 30th anniversary of normalization of relations between the two countries. According to him, the relationship between Vietnam and the US has grown strongly in recent years and has now become limitless in many areas. He said that there is still much room for the two countries to continue to cooperate and improve further. "We really want a strong, independent, prosperous and resilient Vietnam. I believe that we have seen the United States take concrete steps to ensure that our two countries grow closer together, sharing prosperity and sharing peace and security for our two peoples and our future generations," he emphasized. Speaking to the press, Mr. Knapper said that the US side is very excited about the upcoming working trip of General Secretary and President To Lam to attend the event of the United Nations General Assembly. The US Ambassador believes that this will be a meaningful working trip and the US side is looking forward to the trip of General Secretary and President To Lam. In addition, he said that the US welcomes Vietnam's increasingly prominent role in the international arena and in the region. He hopes that the US will stand side by side with Vietnam on its journey to becoming a stronger, richer and more prosperous nation.
