Nhat Tan daisies are twice as expensive as last year due to crop failure caused by storms and floods.
This year, many areas of Nhat Tan daisy cultivation in Hanoi were flooded due to the impact of super typhoon Yagi, causing a shortage of supply. Only a few gardens still kept a few flowers that survived the storm and these naturally became "hot" products, sought after by customers.
Ms. Hai, the owner of a daisy garden in Nhat Tan village (Tay Ho district), said that this year her garden was raised higher, which helped to somewhat escape flood water.
"Luckily, I still kept some off-season daisies. To make the plants bud early, I had to use a sophisticated method of covering the flowers with nylon, covering them in the afternoon and removing them in the evening. This work had to be done continuously for 40-45 days," said Ms. Hai.
Because of the characteristics of this flower, which blooms quickly and only lasts 2-3 weeks, Ms. Hai's garden harvests quickly and sells very quickly.
Ms. Hai added that almost all the daisy gardens in Nhat Tan village were damaged after storm No. 3, so the number of daisies is very small and scarce. Therefore, whenever she harvests a little, customers buy it right away.
In just one week of harvest, most of the rare remaining chrysanthemum gardens in Nhat Tan village, Phu Thuong ward were almost sold out.
Most traders come to the place to buy, then distribute and sell on the market.
According to research, the price of daisies sold at the garden is from 150,000 - 200,000 VND/bunch, double the price compared to last year. "Because this year the flower crop failed, the price is higher and fortunately customers still love it and keep buying it. We are also happy to regain our spirits, making up for the sadness when the storm and flood destroyed our gardens, and we were worried about losing our crops," said Ms. Hai.
In recent days, Nhat Tan daisies have also begun to appear on the streets of Hanoi.
However, due to the small quantity, each flower row only has a few bouquets.
Currently, Nhat Tan daisies are being sold on the market for 150,000 - 180,000 VND/bunch, much more expensive than daisies grown in other regions, which are priced from 120,000 - 150,000 VND/bunch. "Nhat Tan daisies often have larger buds, thicker petals, are whiter and more beautiful than daisies grown in other regions," a seller compared.
In addition to selling flowers, many people also shape bouquets of daisies into trays, flower baskets, and flower stands for customers to rent to take photos, for a few tens of thousands of dong per rental.
