On the morning of October 17, many parents in Da Nang took their children back to school according to the announcement of the Da Nang Department of Education and Training on the afternoon of October 16. However, right after returning home, the parents received a notice from the school inviting them to pick up their students because of heavy rain, all students in Da Nang continued to be off school on October 17.
Specifically, on the morning of October 17, the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City sent a message to educational institutions with the following content: “ The Department of Education announces: Dear teachers! Due to the bad weather, the low pressure has strengthened into a tropical depression with heavy rain, schools inform preschool children, students and pupils to continue to stay home from school today (October 17) and continue to monitor the situation. Thank you teachers! ”.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga (residing in Hoa Thuan Dong ward, Hai Chau district) indignantly said that on the afternoon of October 16, she received a notice from the school (official dispatch from the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang) informing students to return to school on the morning of October 17. However, this morning, after taking her child to school, she returned home to prepare for work and received a text message from the school asking her to come pick up the students.
On the morning of October 17, many parents in Da Nang braved the rain to take their children to school only to receive notice that school was closed.
“ It has been raining heavily since yesterday evening, the Department of Education and Training should have reviewed the situation and announced early for students to stay home. It was not until this morning, when many parents braved the rain to take their children to class and were about to go to work, that they received notices to pick up their children. Parents were in a panic ,” said Ms. Nga.
Also expressing his indignation, Mr. Nguyen Son (residing in Nai Hien Dong ward, Son Tra district) said that it was raining heavily and he had to drive his child to school before receiving a text message from the homeroom teacher informing him that the Department of Education and Training had ordered all students in the city to stay home from school.
“ It was pouring rain, many parents only received a text message announcing the school closure when they took their children to school, so they took their children home. The sudden change in school schedules made parents upset because it affected their work. The education sector should update weather developments and make early announcements so that parents and students can be proactive. How many people are affected by the way the education sector works ?” said Mr. Son.
Previously, at noon on October 13, due to heavy rain causing flooding in many places in the area, the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang urgently announced that students in the entire city would be off school that afternoon.
Then, on the morning of October 15, when parents brought their children back to school, they received a notice from the Da Nang Department of Education and Training that students in the entire city would be off school.
On the afternoon of October 16, the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang announced that students would return to school from October 17. However, this morning, when many parents brought their children to school, they continued to receive notices that students would be absent from school.
