In recent times, cadres and members of the Veterans Association at all levels in Van Lam district have done many practical and meaningful things to study and follow the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh. Thereby, continuing to promote the tradition and qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, actively participating in socio-economic development, maintaining political stability, order and social security at the grassroots level.
Learning from Uncle Ho about promoting civic responsibility for the community, for nearly 13 years, members of 8 self-managed railway traffic safety war veterans groups of Van Lam district war veterans have effectively carried out the task of guarding the crossings at 8 intersections between roads and railways in the district. War veteran Dang Van Lam, Head of the self-managed railway traffic safety war veterans group in Nghia slope area (Chi Dao commune) expressed: No matter day or night, no matter rain or wind, cold or hot, whenever the train passes, the war veterans are present at the crossing on time to do their duty, not letting any unfortunate incidents happen. Being on duty every day, ensuring safety for each passing train is our joy. This year I am 79 years old, many people advise me to rest because of my old age, but with the desire to contribute to the community, I am still healthy enough to participate in the self-managed group.
Willing to sacrifice personal interests for the common good through practical actions is the way many cadres and members of the Veterans Association of Van Lam district do in studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh. From 2019 to present, cadres and members of the Veterans Association have contributed 2,570 working days, donated 140m2 of residential land to expand village roads and alleys to beautify the countryside. Typically, veteran Nguyen Van Tuan in Minh Hai commune dismantled the fence, donated nearly 60m2 of land to expand inter-village roads. Veteran Tran Van Ngu in Luong Tai commune donated nearly 40m2 of land to expand roads... The veterans are excited because their own and their families' contributions have created wider and more beautiful roads, helping people travel, trade and develop the economy more conveniently.
Studying and following Uncle Ho, each cadre and member of the Veterans Association of Van Lam district promotes the spirit of setting an example worthy of Uncle Ho's soldiers, has the sense of self-reliance, self-improvement in labor production, economic development, actively supports and helps each other in economic development and poverty reduction. Many cadres and members of the Veterans Association always strive to research, learn, proactively apply science and technology in livestock and crop farming; expand production, business and service models... From there, not only enriching the family and society but also creating jobs for nearly 1,000 workers who are veterans, children of veterans, and former soldiers with wages from 7 to 10 million VND/person/month. To support members in developing their family economy, the Veterans Association at all levels in the district proactively guarantees with the Transaction Office of the District Social Policy Bank for members to borrow preferential loans with a total amount of over 75 billion VND.
“Learning from Uncle Ho, first of all, we must build a strong character, dare to think, dare to do, dare to take responsibility. In the army, I fulfilled my duty as a soldier, and when I returned to normal life, I tried to fulfill my duty as a citizen,” shared veteran Ly Van Sung in Minh Hai commune. Starting a business from hardship, rising up with the will and character of Uncle Ho’s soldier, in 1996, veteran Ly Van Sung joined Hoa Binh Joint Stock Cooperative (now Ngoc Hien Precast Concrete Company Limited) specializing in the production of bricks and tiles. During the period when the cooperative encountered difficulties in production and business, it suffered losses due to its products no longer being suitable for the market. Veteran Ly Van Sung and the Board of Directors found a new direction, switching to the production of unburnt construction materials and leasing premises and warehouses. By 2015, production and business activities had gradually stabilized and made a profit. Average revenue reached 8 billion VND/year. The company creates stable jobs for nearly 20 workers, with an average income of 10 to 12 million VND/person/month. With a stable economy, veteran Ly Van Sung is always responsible and dedicated to the work of the Minh Hai Commune Veterans Association; actively participates in supporting movements and social security activities launched by the locality and all levels of the Veterans Association.
Not only pioneering in economic development, war veterans also actively participate in building and protecting the Party and the government. Many members were elected to the Party Committees at all levels and to the Party committees of villages and towns.
