Seeing smoke and fire engulfing a house in District 12 (Ho Chi Minh City), people joined forces to break down the iron fence on the first floor to rescue three trapped family members. The incident happened on the morning of July 4.
At nearly 6 o'clock, smoke and fire broke out on the ground floor of a two-story house on TA16 Street, Thoi An Ward, District 12. At that time, Mr. Nguyen Phi Hung (42 years old), his wife and daughter (3 years old) were sleeping in a room on the first floor.
Many people around used fire extinguishers to put out the fire but were unsuccessful because the door was locked so they could not get inside.
A few minutes later, the fire spread to the furniture and two motorbikes, causing a fierce fire that engulfed the first floor, creating a thick black smoke cloud. Three people in the house ran to the balcony to call for help. Neighbors climbed onto the corrugated iron roof, used a hammer to lock the latch, and pulled the iron fence to create a gap for the victims to escape while being covered in black smoke.
Two motorbikes and many belongings on the first floor were burned down after the fire. |
"The homeowner said they were sleeping in a closed room so they didn't know when the fire broke out," said Mr. Nam, a rescuer.
Mr. Cung Quang Ha, Chairman of Thoi An Ward People's Committee, said that the three victims were taken to District 12 Hospital, 4 km from the scene, for medical care and their health was stable. The initial cause was an electrical short circuit in household appliances.
