(Dan Tri) - Improving input quality and attracting excellent students to enroll is a race taking place between universities in Vietnam.

Currently, domestic universities are actively introducing attractive policies to attract talent. One of the most popular policies being widely applied by schools is scholarship programs.

"Rain" of scholarships to encourage talented people

Scholarships are an effective tool in narrowing the gap in educational inequality. Financial support programs will help children in remote areas or those in difficult circumstances to access education like their peers.

Partial financial support will help students focus on their studies without having to worry about tuition issues. Reducing financial pressure is also a way to foster an effective educational environment for learners.

On the other hand, scholarships are also a way to attract students with excellent achievements.

In addition to effective training programs, organizing study abroad exchange programs, developing technology, investing in facilities, etc., scholarship policies are also a prerequisite to attract talent.

Top public universities always have specific criteria to evaluate and provide scholarships to outstanding students. Most public universities base their awards on academic achievement and training scores.

For example, Ho Chi Minh City National University has a scholarship program "Nurturing Math and AI Talents" with a budget of 25 billion VND until 2026. This scholarship policy aims to develop key fields such as artificial intelligence, meeting domestic and international human resource needs.

In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics also granted 570 admission scholarships to new students with high admission results, and 150 scholarships to support learning for new students with difficult circumstances.

In addition to scholarships to encourage learning each semester or support living expenses with a subsidy of 2 million VND/month, Hanoi National University also has cooperation programs with businesses, organizing special programs aimed at training high-quality human resources from an early stage.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has invested about 70 billion VND to build a number of outstanding scholarship funds such as Tran Dai Nghia scholarship with support from 50% to 100% of tuition fees for students in difficult circumstances, business scholarships, exchange study abroad scholarships,...

National Economics University also annually implements scholarship policies such as business scholarships and valedictorian scholarships to honor students with the highest achievements in the entrance exams.

Not only public schools, private schools are also active in designing scholarship policies to attract talents as well as encourage the talents of students studying at the school. In addition, private schools also focus on scholarships to provide financial support for students in difficult circumstances.

Among them, the scholarship program and financial policy "Study first - Pay later" of FPT University will be implemented in 2025. Students will pay tuition fees in installments within 5 years after graduation. This scholarship is built on the goal of breaking down financial barriers and leaving no student with a passion for learning behind.

In the coming year 2025, FPT University will also implement many other scholarship programs such as 900 school scholarships, 300 full scholarships, thousands of scholarships for the first 1-2 years... In which, the Global Expert scholarship will include tuition exemption and living expenses of 30 million VND/year for students receiving the scholarship. Notably, students who receive this scholarship after graduation will be selected to work in one of 5 countries: the United States, Japan, Korea, Germany and Singapore.

Competing to attract talent with international universities

In the context of increasingly fierce competition, universities in Vietnam not only strive to attract excellent domestic students but also face pressure from international universities.

Dr. Le Truong Tung, Vice President of the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges, shared: "In the context of globalization and increasingly deep international integration, excellent students are often sought after by prestigious universities around the world.

This poses an urgent requirement for Vietnamese universities to innovate and internationalize their training programs, especially in developing scholarship packages of international stature."

In order to attract talented people to stay, Vietnamese universities need to increase the level of scholarships. Not only stopping at financial issues, but those scholarship programs or policies must open up opportunities for students to access high-quality education and international integration.

Talented people are not only interested in how much financial support the scholarship will provide, but they also pay attention to other opportunities and values that come with it. In addition to finance, the scholarship program must focus on the quality of education, opportunities to participate in international exchanges, develop skills, ... in the context of competition with scholarship packages from international schools.

In general, scholarships are not simply financial support, but also a comprehensive development journey, helping recipients maximize their personal potential and create a foundation for the future. To attract talent, universities need to build scholarship programs with a long-term vision, bringing value beyond the numbers on paper.
