Park in... planning
The coastal area of Northern Quang Nam can be determined from the border area of Da Nang City (Dien Ngoc Ward, Dien Ban Town) running along to the North bank of Cua Dai, Thu Bon River (Cua Dai Ward, Hoi An City).
If the coastal urban area of Cam An - Cua Dai (Hoi An City) has been established for exactly 20 years (2004 - 2024), the sandy area of Dien Ngoc - Dien Duong is also about to complete 10 years of transforming into a ward (since 2015).
Planned as a place with great urbanization potential as well as bustling trade - service - tourism activities, the density of functional areas, parks, and sea squares in this area according to the plan is relatively high.
According to the plan, in Hoi An city, there will be 10 coastal park clusters and mixed service-public space An Bang. In Dien Ban, there will be a marine eco-tourism cultural square to organize cultural activities and major events of Dien Ban town and Quang Nam province.
However, after the planning adjustment, some coastal park clusters in Hoi An have no choice but to renovate because there is no more space to form parks as originally desired.
In Dien Ban, the functional areas or sea squares are still in the future and the coastal city is still quiet when night falls. There are not many green spaces to choose from, so in recent years, the residents and tourists in this area can only go to beaches such as Ha My, An Bang, Cua Dai... to relax.
Park for the future
The trend of establishing green spaces in general and parks in particular has changed a lot compared to the past. Parks are no longer simply a complex of buildings but must be preserved intentionally and strategically; enhancing or restoring elements of natural systems such as forests, agricultural land, floodplains, riverbanks, coastal forests to reduce costs and increase urban resilience.
Mr. Bui Anh Tuan - Head of Planning Department, Department of Construction said that this area has some large-area park planning, such as the water coconut forest park (75ha) with the nature of an eco-tourism park, the traditional agricultural park of Tra Que vegetable village (46ha)...
There are many concerns about feasibility, but in fact, these parks are shaped on the basis of retaining the entire ecosystem area of those areas to preserve green space for the future.
Mr. Nguyen The Hung - Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee said that it is necessary to raise the issue right from the planning stage. For example, the planning of An My flower park (Cam Chau) needs to be in the direction of a flooded park.
Because this is a characteristic of the ecosystem of this area in the past, combining it with organizing tourism and service activities would be very suitable instead of concreting, raising the ground to make a roundabout, planting flowers, ornamental plants... which would affect the drainage capacity of the urban area.
Besides planning from management agencies, urban areas really need more thematic parks from the support of organizations as well as ideas from businesses.
In mid-2024, the Cua Dai community ecological park (Cua Dai ward) with the theme "Wild birds" within the Cua Dai green corridor planning project coordinated by the Institute of Construction Economics (ICUE) and Think Playgrounds will be officially handed over to serve the needs of the community.
In Dien Ban, the Co Co amusement park (Dien Duong ward) has taken shape, although there are still some problems that prevent it from operating, but it is expected to become a special destination, serving the people and tourists in the near future.
The highlight for the entire Co Co riverside route through Quang Nam province according to the planning of the coastal urban design project, the Co Co riverside is shaped as "Quang Nam cultural - historical - ecological park chain".
Although still quite vague, this shows the ambition of the management agency to make a big mark on the space of the coastal urban chain in the North of the province. If this chain of parks is established and connected in the future, the coastal urban area of Northern Quang Nam will be much more attractive and "worth living" in the eyes of residents, tourists and investors.
