National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man begins attending the 150th IPU Assembly, official visit to Uzbekistan

Welcoming the delegation at I.Karimov Tashkent International Airport, the capital city of Tashkent were First Vice Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan Sodiq Safayev; Chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Adolat” Makhmudova Robakhon Anvarovna; leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and officers and staff of the Embassy of Vietnam in the Russian Federation concurrently serving in Uzbekistan.

The participation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man in the 150th IPU Assembly continues to affirm Vietnam's role as a proactive, active and responsible member of the IPU as well as multilateral forums. Through this, it contributes to strengthening multilateralism, international cooperation and solidarity, promoting Vietnam's role and position in regional and international parliamentary cooperation mechanisms; at the same time, continuing to maintain and promote relations with IPU member countries and parliaments.

It is expected that within the framework of attending the 150th IPU General Assembly, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will deliver an important speech at the General Discussion Session, and have bilateral meetings with leaders of the IPU Secretariat, leaders of parliaments of countries and international organizations. Thereby, he will discuss measures to further promote cooperation with the IPU, deepen relations with countries and partners, continue to enhance Vietnam's participation and contributions in the IPU as well as in multilateral forums, and seek support from international friends and external resources to realize the country's development goals.

Vietnam and Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations in 1992 and the traditional friendship between the two countries has been maintained and developed well over the past time. In terms of politics and diplomacy, the two countries have actively implemented delegation exchanges and bilateral contacts after a period of interruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The two sides maintain coordination at international and regional forums, including the United Nations, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Forum on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures (CICA), etc. The two countries' parliaments maintain contact activities within the framework of multilateral forums and conferences. The Uzbekistan National Assembly has established a Friendship Parliamentarians' Group with Vietnam (2023).
