In October 2024, the Women's Union of Hoi An City coordinated with the People's Committee of Cam Thanh Commune to launch the Go Hy community tourism and aquatic resources conservation cooperative group (Thanh Tam village). This is an activity within the project "Developing sustainable community livelihood models combined with ecotourism to promote socio-economic development, contributing to the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems in the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve".
The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility through the Small Grants Program in Vietnam. The Hoi An City Women's Union is in charge of implementing the project in Cam Kim and Cam Thanh communes.
The Go Hy community tourism and aquatic resources conservation cooperative group has 36 members. The cooperative's executive board consists of 7 members, led by Mr. Tran Ro. The cooperative members connect, support, and create conditions for each other to work together to develop their profession, ensuring economic stability on the basis of voluntariness, equality, and mutual benefit.
“We are very happy that the cooperative was established for people to develop community-based learning tourism. We are also very grateful to the sponsors, the City Women's Union, local authorities and experts who have actively supported and created conditions for the Go Hy community to access this type of community tourism,” said Mr. Tran Ro.
Joining the cooperative, Thanh Tam villagers join hands to protect the village's environmental landscape, conserve aquatic resources, and promote the value of the craft of making bamboo and coconut houses in Cam Thanh - a national intangible cultural heritage.
At the same time, preserve and promote cultural and historical values, especially revolutionary historical stories in Cam Thanh coconut forest, thereby creating new and sustainable tourism products in the locality.
Ms. Ngo Thi Tuyet Nhung - President of Hoi An City Women's Union said that recently, the City Women's Union has closely coordinated with Cam Thanh commune to develop plans, organize community consultations to implement the project, and promote the establishment of cooperative groups.
Many contents related to the educational tourism model have also been deployed and guided in conjunction with improving the capacity of the community. Propaganda and mobilization work has been promoted and people have agreed and responded to participate in the model.
Through the construction of the Go Hy community learning tour associated with the conservation of aquatic resources, visitors will experience sitting in a basket boat in the aquatic conservation area in the coconut forest area, visiting historical sites, learning about the history and culture of the land and people of Cam Thanh, experiencing traditional crafts, local cuisine...
“We will also coordinate to organize training for tour guides so that they can tell tourists stories about the basket boats associated with Cam Thanh coconut forest and the bamboo and coconut painting profession. Through that, tourists will have more options to experience when coming to Cam Thanh” - Ms. Nhung shared.
