At nearly 12 noon on April 16, Captain Pham Thanh Khanh - an officer of the investigation team of the Ky Son District Police, Nghe An - ran over and said to his teammates: "The rice is cooked, everyone take a break and eat."
The hot early summer sun soaked the uniforms of the Ky Son District Police officers who were helping people overcome the consequences of hail and thunderstorms.
Quickly washing their hands, feet, and faces, the young soldiers who are staying in the village of Bao Thang sit down to a simple meal with only two dishes: sea fish in tomato sauce and fried meat.
After finishing their meal in the stilt house, the soldiers took a break at noon to continue working as carpenters, roofers and construction workers to help people repair houses.

Many houses are located on steep mountains and steep terrain, so police officers had to carry each roof tile up to re-roof the house.
"The team's work starts early in the morning, sometimes working through lunch, having to climb on roofs or carry bricks and tiles. But seeing the houses and kitchens of the people being repaired, we no longer feel tired," Captain Khanh shared.
For the past three days, Captain Khanh's group has been on duty in villages along with local youth and militia forces to support people from house to house due to hail and tornadoes.
Mr. Moong Van Loi - Chairman of Bao Thang Commune People's Committee - said that the hailstorm and strong thunderstorm on the afternoon of April 14 affected most households in the commune, most of which had their roofs punctured or their tiled roofs blown off, including one house in Sao Va village that completely collapsed.
"Thanks to the police and soldiers who came to the villages to help, houses have been repaired. People no longer have to worry about rain or shine," Mr. Loi said.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung - Chairman of the People's Committee of Ky Son district - said that from April 13 to 15, in Ky Son district, there were hailstorms, tornadoes, and strong winds that broke trees and electric poles, affecting three schools.
More than 660 houses of people in the communes of Bao Thang, Huoi Tu, Bao Nam, Chieu Luu, Nam Can, Muong Long, Muong Tip... were damaged.
Of which, 5 houses in Bao Thang and Chieu Luu communes collapsed completely, 81 houses were severely damaged (30% - 50%).

"Immediately after the natural disaster, the District People's Committee directed and established two working groups to visit communes and villages to visit and support people to overcome the consequences.
Affected localities also mobilized police, military, youth union and local people to support affected families in cleaning up and rebuilding their houses," said Mr. Hung.
In addition to Ky Son district, in Anh Son district, the storm and hail that occurred on the afternoon of April 14 also damaged 27 houses, hundreds of hectares of rice and crops were broken; estimated damage was more than 70 billion VND.
Currently, forces in Anh Son are mobilizing local resources to support and overcome the consequences of natural disasters, initially stabilizing people's lives, especially households with damaged housing.
