Many foreign tourists from the US, Australia, India, etc. expressed their interest and impression of the very typical dishes at the No. 37 Trade Rice Shop. The dishes of a period have left their mark on many generations.
Located on Tran Vu Street (158 Tran Vu Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi) near the Ngoc Dao - Ngu Xa walking street, there is a Mau Dich rice shop number 37 that is gradually becoming a favorite destination for locals, domestic and foreign tourists.
Right from the door, visitors can see the image of a period through the lamppost, the bicycle or the very typical paint color. Stepping inside, visitors will see a space filled with objects and memorabilia from the subsidy period. From black and white photos, a dining table made from a sewing machine leg, a sofa set with a fabric cushion with a very typical peacock pattern... to a glass of draft beer, a row of stones displayed by the shop owner in a glass cabinet. It seems that the 37 Trade Store is recreating the old scene of the difficult but beloved subsidy period. 
Ms. Dang Thanh Thuy, the shop owner, said: The memories of the subsidy period that today's youth hear through stories told by their grandparents and parents are the crowded trade counters where people queue up to buy food, the black and white TV where the whole neighborhood gathers every night, the enamel bowls and plates, the transistor radio, Tien Phong plastic sandals... A time when Hanoi was difficult and "perhaps because of human sweat, the processed noodles seemed tougher and saltier...". Mau Dich No. 37 will be the place to preserve those fond and difficult memories, in a nostalgic space filled with time, in the heart of today's modern and vibrant Hanoi. 
Dishes such as: sweet potato leaves stewed with fermented rice, braised carp with soy sauce; bean curd with onions; rice mixed with noodles, cassava; crab soup, eggplant, burnt rice... are very popular with domestic and foreign tourists and have been praised. Many international newspapers and radio stations have come to Mau Dich rice shop No. 37 to film and take photos, such as the New Yorktime of the US; NHK television of Japan; and Australian newspapers. At first, when I agreed to let them come to film and write articles, I was a bit hesitant because everything was old, the photos were black and white, the objects were all dark, but unexpectedly when they filmed and sent the link, it was so beautiful, everything was so clear and full of emotions." 
According to Ms. Dang Thanh Thuy, there are groups of foreign tourists who come here to have a meal before leaving Vietnam and share that this is the last day of their trip in Vietnam, enjoying a meal with the spirit of Vietnamese culture. The clearest feeling about Vietnam is this meal and it will be a meal that keeps beautiful memories of Vietnam. That is what makes me happy, and now it has been 12 years since opening the Mau Dich rice shop, but I have never felt less passionate or enthusiastic. I always feel happy and joyful when looking at the faces of customers when they enter the shop and enjoy the dishes...Heritage Magazine
