Opportunity to regain high form

With the desire to continue playing abroad, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy was given maximum support by the leadership of VTV Binh Dien Long An Club (the managing unit). The 27-year-old player reached an agreement to play for Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk Club for 1 season (from December 2024 to May 2025) and left for Indonesia on December 9.

The news that Thanh Thuy - one of the top hitters in Southeast Asia - will play in the Indonesian national championship (Proliga) has made fans in the archipelago excited and expectant. However, some opinions say that choosing to go to Indonesia is a step backward in Thanh Thuy's career, because Indonesian women's volleyball is currently ranked lower than Vietnam's. Previously, Thanh Thuy played in Taiwan, Thailand, Japan and most recently Türkiye.

Speaking to Thanh Nien on December 10, coach of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team Nguyen Tuan Kiet said: "The most important thing for Thanh Thuy at this time is to compete to regain her form and feeling of playing football after a long time being affected by injury. In my opinion, Thanh Thuy's choice to compete in Indonesia at this stage is appropriate because the level of expertise of the tournament is moderate, so she will be able to compete a lot."

A persistent injury while playing in Japan has prevented Thanh Thuy from returning to her best form. That is why she could not stay at Kuzeyboru Club (Türkiye) and was forced to say goodbye early to the European team. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet hopes that Thanh Thuy will return strongly when she plays in Indonesia.

In 2025, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will compete in two major international tournaments: the 33rd SEA Games and the World Volleyball Championship, both in Thailand - tournaments in which the Vietnamese team really needs Thanh Thuy's presence.
