Excellently winning the only National First Prize of the Ninh Binh Province Excellent Student Team at the National Excellent Student Selection Exam for the 2023-2024 school year, Duong Thi Ngoc Minh, grade 12, specializing in Geography, Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted, has added to her academic achievements with 2 National Excellent Student Awards (winning the National Third Prize in the 2022-2023 school year and the National First Prize in Geography in the 2023-2024 school year).
As a child of Ninh Van stone carving village (Hoa Lu), in addition to being skillful in stone carving, student Duong Thi Ngoc Minh also has a passion for Geography. Since grade 8, Ngoc Minh has participated in the Geography Team of Ninh Van Secondary School.
Duong Thi Ngoc Minh shared: Geography is a comprehensive science subject that includes both natural sciences and social sciences, requiring students to have knowledge and the ability to synthesize thinking. In addition to the knowledge in textbooks and specialized subject knowledge, we need to approach and update ongoing natural and socio-economic issues.
Despite her passion, Ngoc Minh has often wanted to step back and found it very difficult to approach Geography. That was when she was selected for the district-level gifted student exam in grade 9 but could not make it to the next round with the district-level consolation prize and continued to fail in the provincial-level gifted student exam. She felt very sad but determined to pursue the subject, so she studied and practiced day and night and as a result, she was in the top 5 in the 10th grade specializing in Geography at the entrance exam to Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted.
With the desire to be like his seniors and "achieve gold" at the National Excellent Student Selection Exam, Ngoc Minh has strived to equip himself with knowledge to join the Geography Team to participate in the National Excellent Student Selection Exam since grade 11.
With the attention of the Education and Training sector, the school, the teachers, and his own efforts, Ngoc Minh has achieved many achievements in provincial, regional and national competitions: Second prize at school level in grade 10 and silver medal in the Northern Delta Coastal region. In grade 11, Ngoc Minh won second prize at school level, first prize at the Provincial Excellent Student Competition and third prize at the National Excellent Student Competition, silver medal at the Northern Delta Coastal region and silver medal at Hung Vuong Summer Camp; in grade 12, won first prize at provincial level, first prize at national level in geography.
For two consecutive years, Duong Thi Ngoc Minh has won two National Excellent Student Awards. For her, that result is the foundation and motivation for her to continue pursuing this subject in the future.
"By taking many exams, I have gained more experience and effective learning methods for Geography. This is a subject that has harmony between nature and society, so instead of forcing myself to memorize and study too much, I choose to learn the basic knowledge firmly, understand the problem clearly, then study deeply and apply it when doing the test.
Besides, I also learn knowledge through social networking sites and reference books. I feel the biggest difficulty is to know how to allocate time to do the test reasonably, to read the questions carefully, and to make an outline..." - Duong Thi Ngoc Minh shared.
Not only is Duong Thi Ngoc Minh a good student, she is also a gentle and approachable student, always sharing knowledge and experience with friends who share the same passion for Geography; actively helping her family with housework and always scientifically arranging between studying and sports practice, reducing stress in studying to achieve the best results.
Teacher Dinh Thi Bich Ngoc, homeroom teacher of the 12th grade Geography class at Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted, Head of the National Excellent Student Geography Team of Ninh Binh province for the 2023-2024 school year, said: Duong Thi Ngoc Minh is a good student and has the determination and will to excel in her studies. She always listens to the teachers' instructions and adjusts and perfects her knowledge content... Minh's special strength is her good natural thinking ability, which is very suitable for studying Geography. Ngoc Minh is also a good child. Outside of school hours, she has never taken extra classes. In the afternoons when she doesn't study, she always helps her parents with housework at the stone art workshop.
With her outstanding achievements, Duong Thi Ngoc Minh has many plans for the future. In the near future, she and her teammates in the National Excellent Student Team are focusing on reviewing the knowledge within the program framework to achieve high results in the High School Graduation Exam for the 2023-2024 school year and confidently step through the university door with the desire to study at the National Economics University.
