During the dialogue, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and his US counterpart Antony Blinken stressed the importance of countries communicating on global issues, including their stance towards Beijing.
Mr Lammy, who was appointed foreign secretary following the Labour Party's victory in July's general election, has stressed the value of a new mechanism called the UK-US strategic dialogue.
"This dialogue could identify ways in which we can strengthen our connection and I understand that would benefit both our countries," the UK foreign minister said.
The diplomat also praised the partnership of allies in the Indo-Pacific region and their agreements with China, stressing that this issue will play a central role in strategic negotiations.
The dialogue comes as London and Washington seek to strengthen their positions in the Indo-Pacific to counter Beijing's influence.
