The CIA is wasting American taxpayers' money.

RT quoted the statement of Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov saying that the campaign to lure Russian citizens to become spies by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) will certainly fail because Russians will not allow an outside force to disrupt their society.

The statement from the Russian ambassador to the US comes after the CIA released a new advertisement urging Russian citizens to share information with the agency. Mr Antonov said the move was part of a “hybrid war” against Moscow.

“In Europe, since the defeat of Napoleon, they have understood Russia's steadfastness in the face of external attacks,” Ambassador Antonov said in a statement on the Telegram channel, referring to the failed French invasion in 1812.

“Realizing the failure to impose sanctions and the inability to inflict a military defeat on Russia, the West is once again trying to sow confusion in Russian society,” Ambassador Antonov added.

According to Mr. Antonov, this provocation will not work. The Russian people have learned the lessons of history and will not allow anyone to divide the unity of Russia.

The diplomat added that Moscow's ongoing military operations in Ukraine “have support” in Russia and that the CIA is wasting American taxpayer money on pointless intelligence programs.

The CIA has run a number of social media ads in recent years aimed at luring Russians into becoming informants.

“The CIA wants to know the truth about Russia, and we are looking for trustworthy people who know and can tell us this truth,” the CIA ad said.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on May 17 that Moscow will retaliate against "deliberate sabotage activities" from the US.
