Minimize child harm
The work of protecting and caring for children in the province has always received the attention and direction of the People's Committees at all levels, and the close coordination between the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and departments, branches and organizations has organized and implemented many practical and effective activities. Children in special circumstances and poor children are well cared for; children in special circumstances are entitled to social assistance policies according to regulations.
Currently, Soc Trang province has more than 308,000 children. In addition to children with good conditions, there are nearly 3,300 children in special circumstances receiving social benefits in the community; 50 orphans and disabled children are cared for at social assistance facilities. In 2022, with the resources of the whole province, more than 45,000 children in special and difficult circumstances were supported through many forms of giving gifts, scholarships, bicycles and housing, and supporting surgery costs for children with heart disease. Currently, the rate of children in special circumstances receiving assistance and care to recover, reintegrate and have development opportunities has reached 100%. The rate of children in special circumstances has decreased to 1.08%, of which children with accidents, injuries and abuse have decreased significantly. However, in reality, there are still many children in difficult circumstances who do not fully enjoy their basic rights.

At the Launching Ceremony of the Month of Action for Children, Ms. Huynh Thi Diem Ngoc - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that, in order to achieve the goal of "All children in the province, especially children in special and difficult circumstances, receive better care in terms of material life, health and spirit", she requested that Party committees, authorities and organizations from the province to the grassroots level pay attention to implementing the Party's policies and the State's policies on children, responding to the Month of Action for Children with the theme "Joining hands to minimize harm to children".
In recent times, Party committees, authorities, departments, organizations, and localities in Soc Trang province have always paid attention and created many favorable conditions to support children in being cared for, improving their health, studying, and developing their talents. Currently, the province has more than 308,000 children, of which 3,274 children in special circumstances receive social benefits in the community; 50 orphans and disabled children are cared for at social protection facilities. There are 118,000 children under 6 years old who are granted health insurance cards, accounting for 98.44%, and 100% of children from poor and near-poor households are granted health insurance cards. In 2022 alone, with many resources, the whole province supported more than 45,000 children in special and difficult circumstances through forms such as: giving nearly 44,500 gifts, 928 scholarships, 237 bicycles and more than 100 houses for children; supporting the cost of heart surgery for 29 children... Every year, on the occasion of the Month of Action for Children, all levels and sectors mobilize gifts and cash worth billions of VND to support and take care of children materially and spiritually.
It can be said that in reality, besides children with conditions and good care, there are still many children who do not fully enjoy their basic rights. The whole province has more than 31,000 children living in poor and near-poor households; some children have to drop out of school before finishing junior high school; some children have to live in families with social problems; parents work far away, orphans... are in dire need of help. Based on that reality, this year, the Month of Action for Children was launched by the province on International Children's Day, June 1. With the goal of all children in the province, especially children in special and difficult circumstances, being better cared for in terms of material life, health and spirit, the province has chosen the theme for 2023 as "Joining hands to reduce harm to children".
Soc Trang Lottery One Member Limited Liability Company sponsored over 1 billion VND to the Provincial Children's Support Fund.
Thereby, enhancing the responsibility of all levels, sectors, and social communities in implementing the Law on Children, policies related to children; proactively solving children's issues, preventing and minimizing risks of child abuse and drowning accidents in order to build a safe living environment for children to develop comprehensively.
Help children materially and spiritually
At the launching ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Thi Diem Ngoc, Head of the Steering Committee for Child Protection, Chairwoman of the Board of Sponsors of the Children's Fund of Soc Trang province emphasized that, in addition to creating opportunities for children to participate in healthy recreational activities during the summer vacation, it is necessary to strengthen the mobilization of social resources to join hands to provide material and spiritual support to children, especially poor children, ethnic minority children, children in special circumstances, and orphans affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. Representatives of the Soc Trang Provincial Youth Union also enthusiastically responded and called on all cadres, union members, youth, and union bases in the whole province to actively participate with many practical and effective actions, in order to contribute to the successful implementation of the goals set out by the Month of Action for Children in 2023.
In which, each cadre, union member and youth is an active propagandist to propagate the purpose and meaning of the action month to the masses and the whole society to change awareness and actions in protecting, caring for and educating children.

Responding to the Action Month for Children 2023, companies and businesses in the province have presented many gifts to children through the Provincial Children's Support Fund. Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs - Director of the Children's Support Fund of Soc Trang province, Tran Thi Hoang My, said that every year, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs coordinates with relevant sectors to direct the strict implementation of the Party and State's policies and guidelines on child care, education and protection; In 2023, support 1,180 children in special circumstances, orphans, children from poor and near-poor households on the occasion of the Month of Action for Children, International Children's Day (June 1) and more than 900 gifts for children in special and difficult circumstances on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Organize gift giving to 200 orphans and disabled children living in social assistance facilities and religious establishments in the province on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival and International Children's Day (June 1).
In addition, we will also increase the mobilization of resources for the Children's Protection Fund to solve necessary problems for children to create a favorable environment for children, especially children in special circumstances, to receive social assistance, medical care, study, play, entertainment, and ensure basic rights as prescribed.
In the coming time, the province also proposed solutions to strengthen the implementation of the contents of Directive No. 20-CT/TW. Accordingly, it is necessary to strengthen the leadership, direction and inspection of Party committees and local authorities on the work of caring for, educating and protecting children in the new situation; improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state management of children; propose, amend and supplement the Law on Children, policies on protecting, caring for and educating children; continue to develop social assistance policies for children in special circumstances in accordance with the socio-economic development conditions of the locality.
In addition, it is necessary to effectively implement coordination between schools, families and society in educational activities, especially in educating cultural lifestyles, training students in ethics and preventing and combating school violence; preventing and combating child sexual abuse in schools. Continue to consolidate, improve and enhance the capacity of staff working on children and participating in the implementation of children's rights in sectors and establishments. Ensure that 100% of communes, wards and towns form a Standing Child Protection Group and arrange people to work on child protection.
